replacement idler wheels for 97 sx700 ??

Started getting my sled ready for winter. The bearing on the idler wheels are shot. So I figured I would just replace the older metal wheels with the newer Yamaha plastic ones. Well it looks like these are not going to work. So what have you guys been using?? What do I need to do to install the newer wheels.
 
They will work, I replaced my two rear wheels with the plastic ones from a 98. How bad are your bearings? When mine start to feel like they dont wanna roll too smooth I pop out the dust seals with a utility knife or small screw driver, soak them in gas to get all of the old grease and junk out, blow them out, re-pack them with grease and pop the seals back in.
 
bearings are pretty gritty and 2 of them do not really roll. That and some of the rubber on them is not the greatest. I am sure they are still the stock ones since the sled only has 3000 miles on it. The 3 big ones on the back are still in good shape. I am starting to think the dealer gave me the wrong ones. They are ppd 04-116-207. They have the plastic inserts in them. Like the cats do. My idler wheels are just like this. The spacer block on the rails. The bolt, a washer, bearing, wheel, Then the big special nut that acts as spacer/bushing for the bearing too. No plastic inserts. I guess I will be calling my local shop.

Actually...I got oem wheels through partzilla.com and they were cheaper than the aftermarket wheels. Just look up the 98 sx and use those, they should all be the same size but in plastic. The rears I got were a little under $17 each, bearing included.
 
I just looked on partzilla and most of them have been discontinued. If you are going with the PPD wheels the part number for the 5 1/4" wheels are pd416207, yamaha part number is 8cr-47310-10
 
If you look at the parts diagram 98 bolt up differently. It has the plastic insert and a metal collar. The 97 do not have all that. 98 must have been the change over year. Partzilla show the part number as 87M-47320-00-00 for 97. I could use the 98 set up if I bought the longer bolts, collar, ect. Not really wanting to spend that extra money. The only reason for ppd that is what my local dealer carries. Called the dealer he is going to order some different wheels that dont show the plastic inserts. I also had him order some bearings. If nothing else I will just replace the bearing and get some good used wheels. Then hope for lots of snow.
 
all those sleds had the plastic inserts with the steel sleeve. what you do to remove those plastic inserts and steel sleeve is get 4 of yamaha part number SMA-BILBU-00. it is a spacer that replaces all of the parts and was made to run the billit wheels from yamaha but it works great on stock wheels and makes the bearings live longer. we are running this mod on all our proaction skids and it made a big difference in bearing life. still uses the stock bolt too. the new apex wheels fit as well as the viper ones only thing is that you have to add a washer on the bolt as the bearings are a bit narrower.

guess i am going to have to sit down and do a write up on this.
 
Sorry no plastic insert in mine. But I would be interested in seeing your write up. With some pics too. At least a pic of the sma-bilbu-00. Thought about just taking the inserts out and changing the bearing. Not sure if I would have clearance issue with the front 2. Since the newer style is a little thicker too.
 
them plastic wheels wont fit because the mount for them is deifferent you need the idler wheel mounts off a sx viper to run those style wheels i ran into the same problem 2 years ago with my sled as well because those plastic wheels the mount literally goes through the bearing instead of the bolt and a bushing and its just a short bolt not the long one like the older style vmax wheels take
