I just got my SRX going on Sunday, and the radar run in IS saturday the 29th!
Well, my sled has a goodwin clutch kit. It seems to accelerate nicely to about 90 then it stops pulling as hard. Seeing as this is a 1000ft radar run, I want it to pull to a higher speed. I wont have to time to order new clutching parts, so how do I tune the clutch to pull harder than 90? Also, should I mess with gearing?
My sled has a DG can that sounds sweet. I'm curious to know how to tie down the rear suspension and how to adjust the front to have the sled as low as possible. Also, my track is a 1" camoplast with 192 studs that are pretty damn dull, anything I can do to make them sharper? I do not have a stud sharpener.
Jetting. Last year, thats what I did to win the 500 and 600 class on my ZR 500.
Its jetted for like -10 right now, and its supposed to be about 30*F on saturday, the problem is, I dont have any jets to jet it leaner. The nearest yamaha dealer is about 120 miles away! Can someone send me some jets to borrow for saturday?
Last year the firecats were running 89-92 in 1000' , but the track was REALLY shitty. There was an improved stock 600 that only ran 104 because the track had like 2" of standing water on it and slush. This year, it should be about perfect. I need to do everything possible to beat those firecrackers!
Thanksguys!
btw, I will be the ONLY yamaha there. Help me represent well!
Edit: I should also say, that I've only gotten it up to 111 MPH, which seems like not a lot for an srx, whats that maybe 90 something on radar? I know the f7's are gonna be near the 100 mark, I hope to be there 2. thanks

First,
Bring it up to par with maintenance. Clean your power valves, Chain tension & new lube, clutches, check alignment, check bushings, new belt? I would get all of these things squared away before I started monkey'in around with the set-up. What's your rpm @ 90mph? If you want to sharpen your studs, you can remove every one, cut off a hex wrench, chuck the cut off wrench in a drill, and spin the stud with the drill on a grinder. I've used a piece of sheetmetal with a hole drilled in it, and bent on an angle, to hold the stud onto the hex wrench while grinding (don't use you fingers, cause thats not smart). That should keep you busy until saturday! Good luck, let us know how you do.

If you don't want to lean out your jetting, and it's running pig rich, This stuff is unreal, you won't believe the power increase. Usually at runs they don't check the fuel, if they do, don't use it cause you won't pass tech. Use half of what is recomended, i use half gallon to 3 gallons of gas. WOW!

it was running on 2 so gas has been runnin into the pipe, and now that its runnin on 3 its backfiring

put the srx silencer back on if you have it. that might take out the flat spot at upper rpms. did on my brothers viper.

I agree with vipertriplexxx, go around general maintenance first, clean valves, clean carbs, clean clutches (I'd scuff them to while I was at it, 80 grit sand paper or a wire brush, push down towards the middle post, pull back up, spin clutch, repeat)
clean and aligning powervalves along with clean carbs gets you back close to stock.
jetting should be done by checking plug and piston wash after WFO plug chops.
check your chain tension, it should be finger tight but not tighter.
track tension can also cost you, if you're studded you should be running abit tighter than stock, I'd go about 1.25" deflection at 20lbs pressure
I don't have gearing off the top of my head for 1000ft, but by my chart, if you're looking for 105mph or so 21-39 or 20-39 would likely do pretty good
I don't have a jetting book handy so I wont guess on ya.
misfire sounds like it might be a coil check all your coil wires, make sure they're good.
cheers and good luck, any more Q's throw 'em up here or PM me

It came 23-37. 23-39 at 8300 is 101 at 1 to 1. Whats in the clutch kit 50-42 with "B" weights and a white primary spring?????

I couldnt tell what angle helix it had, but it had a black spring in the 2ndary and a white one in the primary.

you need to know what you have before you change it. It should have what I listed. If you were gonna run that set-up in 1000 I would gear it 23-39 and jet it 1 size lowere than stock, should be good enough

I was assuming abit of overdrive outa the clutches from the aftermarket helix, 23-39 should be good for 107 out the big end assuming no OD
stock SRX600 gearing IIRC

so, i wanna LEAVE the clutching alone, run 1 jet size smaller than stock (which is???) and run 23-29's correct, along with a tune up, and that should get me about 107-108 in 1000' eh?

23 39 should run right a 100 101, any over that is gratis, your clutches should easily get you 10% you'll get more if the inside of the helix is cut, if this thing is stock and you're running on a plowed track this set-up should get you over 100 easy. Look up the jetting for stock and go down one, I don't remember the sizes but don't screw up the stagger.

With 23/38 I cositlently ran 106 to 106.2 mph in a 1000 ft but a good shaved track you can hit 110 in a 1000 ft this is strictly set up for speed run's and pump fuel.Dont run anything less than 23/38 gearing.Run the air box
carb set up=
140 main's
45 pilot's
fuel screw 1 1/2 turn out
needle stock
.5 air jet's
87 octane
br9es plugs
primary=
heavy hitters
heel-short set screw
center-empty
tip-big boldt with 2 washers
o-s-o primary spring
I for got to write it doewn but I did end up add more weight because I changed the secondary to this but add all weight to tip.
secondary=
54/46
green secondary
i forgot the hole position I want to say 3-2 or 6-2
run 23-37 gearing.
I had a half lug with 144 ice picks do a 10 ft roll out then mash on the gas.
I also had a slide lube system worth 3 mph when i put it on.Any question's email me so I get them in time to answer I don't come on this forum alot anymore.I hope this help's you out.
