Running these engines for huge mileage before they are freshened up is not the best thing for them. I agree with the expression "if it is not broken, don't fix it" to a point but on a 2 stroke, periodic rebuilds before a major failure is preventative maintenance. I ran my first 00 SRX to 13,000 miles before a rebuild but wish I had freshened it up earlier. It was obvious during the rebuild that I was lacking some performance (worn rings showing lots of blowby, chipped reed pedals, a few leaking gaskets). It hurts to take an engine apart that is seemingly running perfect but I have learned it is better to refresh sooner than later. I ran synthetic oil in the engine after the first couple of tanks of gas, all the critical dimensions of the important parts were within the wear limits, I put all new gaskets, seals and the normal replacement parts during a rebuild, now good for at least another 5-6000 miles.
