Bolt that holds the ski on... a question???

I just got my new to me USI TS201 plastic skis... took the stock metal skis off my Yamaha and tried to put the new ones on... the bolt is too short. It's metric I know, and the neighborhood hardware store doesn't have one longer unless I want to use a standard grade 8 with a washer. The stock bolt and nut are flange head (like a built in washer), and there is a hole in the end of the bolt for a cotter pin to keep the nut from ever coming off.

Question... can you use a standard head nut (nyloc) and bolt with washers if I still drill the hole for the pin???

yes you can as long as you use washers and a castle nut. just use a grade 5 though. 8 is too hard and might pop the head. can cause you to loose ski and cause some excitement. the 5 will stretch 1st before letting go.
 
The bolts from a viper will work too, I ran into the same thing putting yamaha viper skis on a 97 XTC - the stock bolts were to short. Cost about $10 though ....
