02 Viper vs 05 Viper (no choke)

Been away from sledding for a while and I just bought a pair of Vipers including an 02 ER model and an 05 SX. The 02 starts easily and has a choke on it while the 05 is a pull start and doesn't appear to have a choke on it?. There isn't a hole or a choke toggle on the bulkhead of the 05 and this one is carburetor equipped so why no choke setup?

Am I missing something here on the 05? Thanks

Take a look on the very bottom of inside corner of left hand grip. My 04 Viper S has the RX-1 style hand controls and choke is lever is on left hand grip.
 
Bingo...right on guys.

Never would have seen it there if someone hadn't of pointed it out (thank you for that). Guy I bought it from fired it up with one pull while I was grabbing my jacket for a test ride and never saw him flick the choke under the left grip, but there it is (lol).

I do have one more question regarding the Vipers if one of you guys can elaborate on. I have seen a lot of Viper parts listed as years 02-04 and wondered if there's a big difference on the 05 models concerning a lot of parts or the engine being different? I'd like to add reverse and possible electric start to this one and wanted to know if the parts off an 02-04 ER model will cross over to an 05. If I can find the reverse case and the electric start kit I may want to add it to this one. Also curious, does the existing wiring harness support the electric start and battery option or is there a harness extension needed as well? Thanks in advance.
 
Keep in mind I have never owned an 05 but the 05 Vipers were/are actually a Mtn.Viper. Trailing arms are slightly different than the rest due to the Mtn aspect, believe the ski stance is a little narrower meaning radius rods are probably different. Most othe chassis parts will interchange with other pro-action chassis not just the other Vipers (some pro-action is the shorter version) E-start from about any pro-action should fit, I am 99.9% sure your harness should have the plug in built into it. Reverse from any other pro-action should fit as well. You will need to cut hole in hood for factory lever or these a thread on here about a cable operated version similar to your parking brake lever. Pay attention to Hyvo/non hyvo gears~chains....cant mix and match them.
 
Forgot to mention the Vipers with the RX1 style controls have different gas/oil cables. Older version is 2 separate cables, RX1 style controls are 2 cables from oil pump/carbs into one to throttle block.
 
Yup, been busy reading the past few days and did pick up on the dual cable. Was also out looking over both sleds much of yesterday seeing what else was different between the pair. Looks like both skids are also different from each other, and the 05 has a rear heat ex-changer where the 02 does not. Skinny little 5.5" skis on the 02 while the 05 has 7" skis up front. They're both pretty clean sleds but I'm really liking to 05 so that one will be mine while the red one will be my wife's sled. I'll likely upgrade the skis on the 02, add the torque arm kit, and maybe a 4x4 pipe with a new silencer. Also wondering if it's necessary to move the needles up to #4 in the carb's as I'm at higher elevation where the sleds are ridden at 4000' feet to 6000' on average. Less air density here probably equates to them running richer than on the flats, but I'll still be looking into that.

The 05 will likely be piped, clutched and jetted for some more power, and I'll add reverse to it since that will surely save my back which isn't what it used to be. Most of my riding will be in the meadows and play areas this year as my wife and kids are pretty new to all of this. They'll also be used for a bit of ditch banging along the highways and taken out for a few trail rides this year. I'm still a speed junkie and love bring the front end up so I'll also be reading to see how I can get the weight transfer right on the blue sled.

Great forum you guys have here. I'll be reading more in hopes of learning lots about these engines and skids. I've always been a Yamaha guy and know I always will be.

Jetting/needles especially with elevation.....your on your own there...cant even speculate myself with good conscience. From what I hear some 04's and all 05's came with the rear exchanger. I am going to put one in my 04 Viper S. I would recommend you put one in your 02 especially if your putting a pipe on it. SRX x changer will fit but not quite right, SX chassis cooler fits better but the inlet/outlet needs rotated to fit better or you can get one for a mtn viper like your 05. I am sure you have read what triple pipes do to gas mileage. I would also check into the Opticool head gasket for both...especially the 02 with no ear x changer.....mine came with one already installed.
 
If you are going to add Estart to the viper make sure that you get the fuse box if you purchase it used. It plugs inline a plug that is on the right (throttle) side footwell. The connector will have a piece of red tape on both ends of the plug.

The 02 SX Viper 700 x 144" (4000 miles) was $3500 (Electric Start & Reverse)
The 05 SX Viper 700 x 144" (2500 miles) was $3800 (Mountain Version)

I've been riding them both and love them, but the 05 is a much better ride suspension wise. I'm going to buy another 05 when I can find one. Love it!
