Exciter Flatslides

So, I purchased a pair of vmax 600 flat slides (38mm) and switched all of the parts over to stock exciter sx settings. The issue I have is that the throttle doesn't actually move the slides until about 1/4 or so and it ends right before it hits the handle bar. Im not sure if thats alright because the oil pump is supposed to be in sync with the carbs? I would like to try to avoid premixing.

You need a throttle block from a Vmax 5-600 or exciter sx. You also need an exciter SX oil pump cable. If that is your 650 the stock SX jetting isnt going to work. I

I'm using the same carbs on my Phazer and had the same issue. As a temporary fix until I find the correct throttle block I made a spacer about 3/8" long that slipped into the throttle block to take up the slack. I have full throttle now and TORS is working fine too.
 
The other thing I thought of trying was to get a second cable adjuster down at the carbs, tap the big end so the small end of the first one threads into it and lock the nut down. That will take up all the slack and then some. Or welding a nut up off the bracket.
 
thats another good idea. I just got an oil cable and throttle block. On its way. Another question though, for some reason it seems to run EXTREMELY lean to the point where it barely wants to run. My exact setup is as follows:

psi pipe and direct oil injection


vmax carbs:
55 pilot (2.5 turns out to allow plenty of gas because its a fuel adjuster in the front of the carbs)
157.5 main jet
9EL2 Needles in the bottom clip with the little spacer underneath the clip (most gas flow)
sx nozzles (think they're like P-6? something like that)
1.5 for the needle and seat (which are good)
3.0 slide cutaway
fuel pump is well because it ran wonderfully before the carb switch out and I blew up my last sled trying to get these dailed in


Reason I can tell it's lean? at idle, it has very low rpms but I can flip the choke and the rpms jump a few thousand and the fact that any time I try to hit the throttle it falls flat on its face. Another way is that the sound of the engine sounds lean (like when you turn the fuel off and let it run itself out of gas). ETGs also run hot and spark plugs are white from the very little running it did. I know there are plenty of smart guys out there and it clearly seems I'm not one of them. lol
 
I would throw some bigger pilots at it and see what happens. Are you sure your crank seals are in decent shape and dont have any potential air leaks anywhere?? Get it to idle nice, then go from there.
 
Im quite positive the crank seals are good because of the way it ran before the flatslides were in. My other sled also ran like this when these carbs were put in it. Ill try the larger pilot jet idea after I get some larger ones. I would've thought 55s would be enough but I guess every engine is different.
