So I bought a st a few months ago with no motor in it. Everything is there minus the crank cases and cylinders and stuff. I am gonna take my sx motor and shove it in. I want long track and electric start. Has anybody installed electric start on an sx before? Do I need to change the magneto or anything?

You will have to change the flywheel. Get one from a 91-93 Exciter with electric start. For some reason I think you will have to change the wiring harness as I believe the stator connection and cdi connectors are different from a std Exciter II.

I have the whole electric start sled minus the motor. I did get the crank with magneto and the cluck as well.

Try to use the SX stator if you can. If not, I will buy it from you.

The SX stator and CDI combo has a little more aggressive timing curve.

Ok so now I'm thinking about a 600vmax engine. How big of a job is it gonna be to swap them?

94-96 vmax 600 will pretty much drop right in. I think you will have to change one of the front motor mounts, but I cant recall. Just make sure you use the carbs and clutching from the 600. The wiring would be the most difficult thing I believe. Not that its hard, just titious.

Has anybody tried it? I found a whole donor sled for 400$ I'm thinking I might get it if it's worth my time

Its been done and can be done. I had an 88 exciter with a vmax 600 engine in that I bought last year for parts. If you have an entire donor sled I would go for it.

Both the exciter and the vmax are electric start. What cdi and stuff should I use

Use all the vmax electronics. You may have to do some splicing in the harness to make everything work.
