I've got one joint on my 01 SRX muffler that looks like it's leaking. Is it just a matter of loosening the bolt and adjusting the band tighter into the joint?

You need to move the donut forward to create a tight seal.and set the band back to keep the springs tight.
OK so other than hooks for the springs that band doesn't actually force the donut into the cup?
I'm used to the pipes on my 98 and they don't have the bands.
Springs hold the pressure and presses the donut into the can. If you were able to look at the brake down it might help.
