Power Valve Gains...?

So I might be posting a dumb question here...What is the purpose of the power valves exactly? Background: I traded an '08 HD Sportster 1200XC for two '01 SRX 700s. Did this back in Feb 2013...great decision too since these sleds put a smile on my face every time I ride, and even when I just see them sitting in the garage! So I really have only one and a half riding seasons out of them. Both sleds run flawlessly as far as I knew. These were my first time snowmobiles other than the few times I had ridden a friend's machine about 15 years ago. With our lack of snow this year so far I decided to learn a thing or two and tinker around a bit and had been reading about power valve maintenance. Low and behold, between both SRXs, 5 of the 6 were pulled through (finally understood what that meant) and Don (mrviper) is working on them now. So my question really is will I notice gains in power with valves that are actually connected to the cables and working as designed? The SRXs already move like screamin' demons so what I am in for? Even FASTER pull?
 
without the powervalves working correctly it wont rev above 8000rpm and would be very flat feeling, almost like running on 2 cylinders. The powervalves raise the exhaust port of the engine and allows the engine to not only rev higher(to 8500rpm) but make way more power, the higher the exhaust port the more duration it has, moving more air thru the engine is the easiest way to explain it.

Ince you get them reinstalled youll need to set them correctly which theres post in the tech section with pics to look at, set them to 2.5mm clearance.

its gonna be a big differance in power I will tell ya up front....lol

Are your tracks studded? Running like they should after a good hooked up hole shot your arms should feel just a little longer.......unless you weren't holding on....then it just shot out from under you!
 
powervalves have to be adjusted and cleaned to make a srx run top notch. no way you can run this motor without them. 3:16 (yammie tony)
 
No studs in either track. I replaced the one studded track last year on my wife's SRX after it got ripped apart going WOT and I went over the front end! I never did notice the rev's or if either sled got close to the 8000 mark and I guess I'm really surprised at the feedback. I knew the SRX was fast and they seemed plenty fast for me last year with the dirty, pulled through valves, so I'm anxious to get the cleaned ones put back in and adjusted right. I'm assuming it will mostly be faster on the top end or will it be quicker out of the hole too? I'm not a racer but I'm not afraid to get on it either. The WI farm fields around me offer plenty of opportunity for open throttle play...if we will ever get enough snow this season. My wife's is basic stock and my SRX has a hauck growler and Bender clutch kit installed. I'm just really floored that there is potential for MORE. Damn, I'm excited to get out there!
 
Awesome. Thanks guys for adding to my anticipation! I may have to make the 3 hour drive up to northern WI to get some riding in this year. I can't wait for mother nature to decide if she wants to give us enough snow.
 
I always have a sore neck after riding my 01 srx 700.they have neck snapping power when they hook up.have fun
 
One track was brand new last year (wife's sled) after the old studded one broke. The track on mine is in really good shape but I don't know how old. No studs in either. My wife is such a non-agressive rider that I wonder if this will be too much sled for her. I know I'm not the only husband, who after riding with their wife, has to stop, wait about 2 minutes before wondering..."where the hell is she?" Maybe she will keep up now!
 
Yeah, bless her heart she likes to go along, just so damn puttsy! I like to put her up front of me, that way she usually goes much quicker cause she knows I can get growley following behind her. At least I have a wife not afraid to play on the trails. I have friends with significant others who wouldn't even know how to sit on a snowmobile.
 
Lol, just don't get too growly...if she decides it isn't fun anymore, then your riding time will definitely get cut into.
