sxr 700 clutch issue?

Hi i posted last season about having some rpm issues with my 01sxr 700 never did get it resolved last year so here i go again...pretty much what happens is from a dead stop if u floor it it will only hit about 7800 rpm..if u floor it and let off at about 40 mph and hit it again she will jump up and hit about 8500 rpm which i believe it should be hitting all the time..also on my last ride last year my yamaha belt lost all the fins on the back side of the belt...note the belt only had about 200 miles on it... I took the secondary off this year and cleaned it noticed it had a little play in the bushings which my local yamaha dealer mechanic said that should be fine??? Not sure what it is...primary looks good?? Why would my belt tear up? Could this be causing my rpm issue?? Any input would be greatly appreciated thanx!
 
check center to center measurement for sure.Are the black ramp buttons in the secondary have any flat spots on them,if so change them(they are expensive).I would go thru your primary good.I would replace the bushings if there are a lot of miles on them,check your spring as well and change it.I had a similar issue like this once on my SRX.I switched clutch from my SXR(change weights and rollers) and she sprung back to life.I had to rebuild my primary with new parts then.
 
What do u mean by center to center measurment?? And the sled has about 7500 miles on it...do u mean secondary clutch bushings?? I also changed degree on my secondary from 60 to 70 and it didnt seem to fix anything...u think it is in the primary?? Oh and the buttons were a little wore i will have to pick them up tomorrow..
 
grab your primary clutch, outer sheave at 3 and 9 O clock positions, and see if you can rock the clutch back and forth towards the motor. If there's play, time for a rebuild
 
Ok now i get it lol thanx for the info! Im pretty sure that was tight but i will have to double check it in the mornin...any ideas why my belt would do that? I work at carquest and got a gate high performance belt from there and put 1500 on that belt and its still good? Bad belt or could the clutches cause that?? I seen a you tube post of a guys sxr belt doing the same thing?

Just went and checked for play in the primary no wiggle at all i do see some minimul grooves in the inner sheeve though??
 
i had one blow like that, it was after it got hot drift banging. then the next day i was testing my accel to 100kph from a dead stop... when i hit it she popped.... didn't notice till 200 km later when some rubber started hitting my in the knee lol. sounds like your primary is sticking, i would at least clean it the proceed with wear specing all the bushings and replacing whats necessary. measure off set and center to center as well.
 
Ok sounds good i will have to pull the primary apart tonight and clean it up i havent messed with that one to much i messed with the secondary more. Thanx for the info!
 
I would agree you have some binding/sticking in the primary. If you take the clutch off it is easier to work on. Or take the belt off remove the clutch cover. Which will allow you to take the spring out. Once the cover is off and the spring is out it relieves the pressure on everything. I find it easier to check the bushing, rollers, weights, spider, sliders, ect. When the spring is out. You can move everything freely by hand.

Thanks for the link i didnt get a chance to look at it tonight its like 35 below zero here right now gotta love wisconsin weather! I will post what i find when i rip into it!
 
Anyone ever mess with the suspension on these sleds i tightened up the straps to try to get rid of the light steering problem ive been having on the trails but it seems like the rear suspension is really stiff now is that normal? What is a good set up for these sleds? I weigh about 165 pounds? Let me know! Thanxs!
 
yes, i like to run my limmiters long so the front shock can do its job. try adding some pre load to the front shocks instead.
 
So i just wanted to update i got my primary clutch checked and clean by my yamahadealer and they said everything was good but it was very dirty so they cleaned it and guess what the issue went away she pulls the skis off the ground now!! But i do still have a new issue now when im holding steady at say 70 it will slowly start to bogg so i let off the throttle and hit again and the way it goes it only does it if im holding a steady speed around 7800 rpms or so?? Any suggestions let me know thanks!
 
No it actually dogs down when ur going a steady 70 or so let off and hit it and the way we go again or if i just keep given it it wont ever dog out it will go right up to 95 and not miss a beat im thinkin i might need to adjust the belt height now thay the new belt is wore in not for sure though and what r these reed spacers everyone keeps talking about also the jet thing is that just leaning it out a little more is that the plan?
 
I was also curious about this silencer mod i keep hearing about what does it actually do more hp or just loud? And how do u do it? Let me know thanx!

jetting A smaller jet = leaner mixture it can give some more hp. But it can also blow up your sled if your to lean.

Thanx for the info might think about notching reeds and maybe silencer mod any suggestions why it might be doggin out at constant speed of 70 or so? Could it be the belt to low in the secondary? It acts like the belt wants to start droppin when im at 7500 rpm and holding it there if i just keep it at 8500 rpm it wont do it?
 
Sorry I don't have good answer for you on your bog at 70. My first thought is some binding some where. Here is how I would proceed. cleaning the secondary clutch. checking/replacing the spring. Check it over for any binding in the clutches/rear suspension lower bearings on the drive shaft. jack shaft bearings. good carb cleaning. I would also ohm out the spark plug caps they should ohm out at 5000k. I would also try a different set of plugs. I always like to start simple.

How low is the belt? I would say if it 1/8 inch below that should be fine.
