Hello All, I have a question. I took my reeds out on my 2001 MM to peek into the crank case. I had about 2 tablespoons of gas residing in the bottom of the crank of two of the cylinders. is this "normal"?
The backstory is I have had a low mileage machine I bought to build. I think I changed too much to quickly. It has been a problem child ever since. So this chapter is, after replacing a cylinder from a lean melt/stick in the center cylinder. I decided to put a peak head on. I have one on my primary machine, so I am familiar with them. They are a little fussy. Anyway, I re-installed the head for the third time. Took the sled for a ride and it still leaked coolant....again. When I was on the mountain I checked my coolant level, and it was low. I took my sled home and took apart the head. I ordered new O rings for the peak head. (sidebar Peak is still in business, and I had O rings in a day and a half
" I was concerned that the "missing" coolant was in the bottom of my crank case. I checked it out, and thought I was in trouble. It had greenish fluid in the bottom of the crank. It turns out it was gas/oil. That is good...kinda. How much gas is correct? This seems to be a lot. Washing the crankcase out of lubricant is not a good thing.
So the question remains "should I be concerned about this amount of gas in my crank"? and if so what are the likely causes?
P.S. The carbs were cleaned. the machine was running. It had been sitting for a couple weeks after I had clean the carbs and changed the gas for this season.
