Can anyone tell me the placement of the middle gears on a reverse setup on a 2000 venture ?? I am specifically interested in the small spring placement between the middle double gears. Is the spring inset in hole of opposite gear or on solid face between the notches ???

The split gear with the small pen style spring can go on either way... is that what you are asking?
From what I remember both gears had a hole in them. What the spring does as it applies a little bit of tension between the two gears to help assist in lining it up when you shift into reverse.
