On the stand rpm vs trail rpm

Is there much of a rule of thumb for converting shift rpm on the stand vs actual real world rpm (on the trail)?

I was told years ago by someone on this forum that if your looking for your RPM at full shift on a stand vs on a trail the stand wont show your true rpm because there's no drag from the snow.

Correct. ..but what kinda difference are we looking at?

What precise difference I couldn't say but it's the load on the sled vs none with it being on a stand. With the rider sitting on it plus the friction of the sled gliding across ice or snow the way the clutches shift out will vary vs no load at all. On a stand the shift would be smoother because there's nothing to cause it to be under load,if that makes sense at all.

there is zero correlation with each other, so in other words it doesnt relate, no where near the same.
