This evening I am picking up a 2001 SX700R. Anything on this sled I should check over before I buy it. I am coming over from being a life long Polaris owner.
The current owner told me the only modws done to the sled are Carbon fiber reeds, and a bender clutch kit.
Also I have read that many folks swap the SXR for the SRX suspention, on their SRX's, he also has an SRX that he is keeping, how can I tell if it is the stock suspention or the suspention off the SRX.
Any informatioon you can provide would be helpful.
Thanks

the sxr is a great sled. The rear skid look almost the same but the SXR will have more travel. You will enjoy that sled.

34 views and only one reply??? Guess that means buy it and enjoy!!
Yep , you`ll love it!
My friend bought -01 700 Mountain Max, and he`s just lovin it.
He said that the triple in it is just soooo sweet. It is his first Yamaha. I know some people tell you that suspension sucks on Yamaha`s, but take it to a test ride make your own mind. It is all in the set-up in my opinion.

Buy it! Yamaha's are the most bullet proof sleds you'll ever own. And you'll kick any comparable polaris's a**

It may not be the fastest 700 around but definatly the most reliable and fuel effecent. Pipes REALLY wake them up though. You can do the "freebie" mods and pick up a decent amount of power also, thin the headgasket and notch the reed cage

You will love that sled. My 2000 SXR700 is pushing 10,000 miles without ever being towed. Here is a list of what has gone wrong with mine:
-Oil level sending unit - warranty fixed
-Electric fuel gauge - warranty
-Primary clutch spring was binding in pocket in spider, over-revving
-Wore out a track
-Bolt holding secondary clutch to jackshaft came loose
-Wore out plastic pivot bushings in rear susp. - found when changing track
I am still using the original two belts.
I have only changed sparkplugs twice, and only because I felt guilty, never fouled one.
Some people may say this sled rides rough, but It takes jumps and sucker bumps the best. I ride a little harder than my buddies so I like it that way.

i love my '01, i need a shock rebuild though, have 5,500 miles on them, she is starting to bounce a little, lol
2001 is the best year for the sx700r. That was the last year it was made and they upgraded many things on it. In 2002 the sx600r was the only one they carried forward and then got the same up grades. It didnt do so well cause that was the year the viper came out. Im currently looking for 2001 sx700r , 2002 sx600r or a viper, but they are harder to find here in canada manitoba. Im only willing to spend $3500 max. If anyone knows some one send them my way. It will be a gr8t sled for you. The best engines around.
good luck

I am a lifelong polaris owner as well. Until I got my first yami last winter.
The 01 sx700r is a great sled. The 700 red head trip was pretty dialed in by 01. Buy it and enjoy.
btw, most guys swap the sxr suspension into the srx. The srx was a lower travel sled, and the switch to sxr shocks long travelled the lake racer srx to handle rough trails better.
