Anyone here have any first hand experience with a 1993 and up phazer 2 crankshaft. I made the HUGE mistake of bringing it to the dealer to replace the main bearings. 420 dollars later I picked up the crankshaft. I didn't notice it before but the thrust washers are different from the mag side to PTO side. The mag side uses the 2 thin washers. The pto side uses 1 thin and 1 thick thrust washer. I checked the parts fiche and they are different part numbers along with the PTO(Clutch) outermost counterweight. I think the change was in 1993. My question is, the Mag side the connecting rod side clearance it nice and tight and the PTO side is loose as hell. The dealer said it is fine however I am way skeptical of two different clearances on a twin crank. The side with more clearance is not the side that was split. The crank fits back in the case perfect so I am not thinking that it was pressed to tight on the mag side. The trust washers look ok. Is it possible that Yamaha had more clearance from the factory on the PTO side? None of the rods bearings were replaced as I was told they are good. Any info on this mess will really be appreciated. Maybe some one has a phazer 2 crank lying around and can take a look. Thanks again, Dennis

been a while since I rebuilt a 93 and newer crank ...but just took a 87 crank and put it in my brothers 93 with no problems as I had a perfect one on the shelf and did not feel like rebuilding his ...I have rebuilt plenty of these cranks and thought that the 93 and newer was any different other than up dated part numbers ...thrust washer clearance should be no tighter than .010'' new I set most around .012'' ......one should always measure everything before disassembly and then compare old verses new measurements .............I do not have my specs in front of me to give you the web width measurements but I can look it up in the morning for you

That would be cool. I would appreciate it. If you look at the parts diagram for a 1996 as compared to a 1989, the thrust washers for the pto side are different. The 89 uses all 4 same thrust washers, and the 1996 uses 3 of the same and 1 thicker one on the pto side. Also the Outer throw is a different part number as well. I searched all the diagrams back year by year and the change was in 1993. I am completely redoing this sled and even though my yamaha dealership who does excellent expensive work says its ok, I dont see how the clearance can be so different between rods. and not have a worn part. I am going to stick a feeler in there in the morning and see what I have. Next move is send it to crank works. Thanks for the reply
