You can check out ebay and pick up NOS gears for pretty short money. Look up the part number then search by that.
As far a gearing goes. That is quite a large change. Dropping 1 tooth on the bottom has the same effect as going 2 teeth bigger on the top. Now that being said, if you want to approach it from a test and tune standpoint go out and do this. Mark you primary clutch with a magic marker stripe from the bushing out to the edge. Go out and run the sled and see how much of the marker you rub off. If there is still marker on the primary your not shifting out all the way. You can drop a tooth on the top and get full range of shift while dropping heat in the clutches and gaining a little efficiency.

If you gear it up you won't get through the clutches as much because you'll be torque limited. greater reduction makes the engine think it has more torque and it will shift up farther.
Read any of the reviews about the Kurt's Polaris Gear down kit for the RMK. They are running higher track speed because they can get full shift out and the clutches run cooler, a lot!

Going down 1 tooth the on the top gear is equivalent to going up almost 3 teeth on the lower gear

I like using a 21 top with the 40 bottom, way quicker off the line. It gets nice use of the entire clutch surface, and Clutches run cooler. You can keep the same 70t chain, when you go to a 20 or smaller you'll need to switch to a 68t chain.

Were all the red head 700s geared the same? my 00 sxr was 22/39 i believe. Im running a 19t top gear now with no issues so far. helps a lot down low, no idea what top speed is since i really dont care what it is. guessing around 90 mph?

Not what I meant , I meant that you have to gear the lower gear up to get the equivalent as to gearing the top gear down.

I ran 20/40 on my 97 SX7 and have the same in my sons 99 SX6. Certainly not "top end" sleds, but the 10-15 second bursts down straight aways are an absolute blast. Then again, we have no places around my neck of the woods for ANNNNNY kind of speed runs. Except for the airfield that isn't used in the winter.
