Ring center pin question

So I found pieces of the ring centering pin all mashed up inside my exhaust after tearing down my vmax I think what caused this was either a stuck ring or lack of oil. I'm not sure I still haven't looked at the oil lines. Sled had 7k miles on it and sat for 3 years before I bought it. What causes the ring pins to fall out? What can I do to make sure this doesn't happen again? It is the mag cylinder. It was kind of stupid of me to not check the oil lines before I started riding it. And I have no clue what oil was in it before. But it was old. I will be doing a full tear down and changing the crank seals and all of the rings. Other two cylinders look great. No blow by. What do you guys think happened?

Ok. Sorry. I got the rings out and it looks to me like that debris I found in the muffler was not the center pins. Which sucks because I don't know where them pieces came from. Il have to tear apart the carbs and look. I'm guessing this is the reason why it blew. All of the pieces to the ring are still there too. Il look into it more
 
It appears to me that something was sucked in through the carbs. also chipped the block by the reed valves too! doesn't look like it will effect anything though. I just really wish I knew how something metal got sucked into the carb
 
How does the crank side connecting rod needle bearings look? There is a lot of damage to the top of the piston. My connecting rod bearings grenaded last year and did the piston looked like yours, or it might be main bearings.
 
yeah, I cleaned the carbs before I rode they were pretty gummed up. as for the crank bearings and rod bearings I haven't split the case yet but I didn't notice any play in the rod bearings. but I will check that. that would really suck if a crank bearing went.
 
soo. this should of been an easy one for you guys. my sled sat for 3 years before I got it. got it running and rode it all day the next day. finally pulled the motor apart mag side crank bearing failure. both bearings. it is a 97.:o|
