helping out a friend with his 97 sx 600.cleaned the carbs for him, and seems to run fine at low rpm.when you hit the throttle, it breaks up at mid to high rpm.seems electrical to me.we disconnected the hand warmers just in case they had something to do with it,and it still doesnt want to rev.i was kinda hoping someone has had the same problem before, and can put me in the right direction so i can get him back on the trails .does anyone know what the problem could be?the sled was running fine the last time he took it out, but i cleaned the carbs just to be sure, i think its an electrical problem somewhere between the stator and the ignition.would a bad ground make it run like that, or couild it be a regulator?wire shorting out?stator?

Simple fix ...adjust throttle cable for more play at idle. The cable is to tight and is ingageing the override system.

nope, thats not the problem, cable has play, its something else, its crisp on idle to 1/4 throttle, then it breaks up

Ya when the stator starts to go it does a bunch of different stuff, hard starting when warm and getting a tingy sound to it like it is out of the powerband over 1/4 throttle.

tried the tors from my sled, which i know works, nothing.tried to loop the tors, nothing. it will rev crisp to 5,000 rpm, then anything after that is junk.sled wont rev up.im pulling my hair out, and i dont have much left as it is!!!someone please help!!!sled fires first pull, idles exellent, crisp on takeoff, wont rev over 5,000

stator test using ohm meter

pickup is white/green to white/red ~200

brown TO black/red ~420

brown/red TO black ~100

These specs are for sx 700, your title says sx 700, 1st paragraph says sx 600... which is it

Do your spark plugs have the screw on tips? Had the same symptoms yesterday on a 600 sxr...cleaned carbs, then disabled tors, still the same symptoms. It didnt act like a fouled plug, but decided to start simple and change them. When we got to the center plug, the screw on tip was not tight. It runs great now...just an idea and its simple to rule that out.

lol its a 99 sx 600.looked at the vin tag.tried the coils, plug caps, cdi, fuel pump, and still the same.going to change the stator i guess.unless someone has a better idea.sled still wont rev over 5,000 without breaking up!!!was hoping it was a simple problem, guess not.
