Wondering what you think of the idea 85 SRV motor swap to newer proaction chassis

I have owned this 1985 SRV for 8 years, before that, my brother bought it brand new. I finally re ringed it this year, even though it still ran great. Compression was starting to slip a bit. Anyway, long story short, is I am considering swapping the motor out of this sled and mounting it in a newer (97-2002) pro action chassis. I have looked and looked to see if anyone has done it, and I have not heard. I have a potential donor sled 98 vmax600 sx twin.

I know this sounds crazy, but the sled is not starting to show serious chassis issues, I have already put a Pro action rear suspension in it, and my son decided to slide it sideways into the back of my attach, and rip the tunnel this year...

Issues I have with the Current SRV chassis, is that the steering is crap, ski design is poor, and overall comfort is just not there. If I could swap the engine into the 600, utilize the 600 exhaust, and motor mounts, maybe I could get another 20 years out of it.

Let me know if this is just crazy thinking. Seemed like a fun thing to occupy my spring and summer
 
Is that motor air cooled or liquid cooled? If air look for one of the pro action phazers because it will already have some ducting.

Anything is possible, it just comes down to time, money desire and ability.
 
Yes, it is air cooled. Not much for ducting in the SRV.. Wondering about the 600 exhaust, and motor mounting. The rest I think I can get through. I plan on removing all the exchangers, etc.
 
SRV engine runs at a little over 7000 rpm if I remember right. I think the VMAX runs at about 7800. The pipe is the main thing that determines correct engine rpm. I suppose the port timing could be changed to match. It may need more cooling at that rpm not to mention where is the ignition timing? Definitely will change jetting. I'm sure it could all be done but it seems like a project with some trial and error.
 
I am sure I will have to play with it a bit. I am not trying to make it a race sled, or anything. Just a little better riding handling sled that the chassis is not imploding. Leaving it stock with the exhaust, will I see any performance issues? Other than it not running further than 7000 RPM. How about motor mounts.. Anyone see any issues there?
