So, I'm up north, ray to sled this weekend, only time this year, and probably last time this year. Got a cabin rented, and friends coming up tomorrow after work. Sled won't rev properly. Runs good, but stops at 5k, and then acts like tors issues. When it does that, it needs to go back to idle before it can engage clutches again.

It's a 97 venture 600 twin with smart carbs. Is this a smart carb or tors issue? From what I've seen, tors issues are 3k max rpm. I don't think it's a smart carb issue.

I've seen some say put the oxygenated fuel switch on. I'm sure its e10. It's done this before, usually right away first time of the weekend, but goes away once warned up and operated a little. This time it's still happening after 20 minutes.

Should I try to jump the yellow/ black wires on carbs and see if that does it? I'll be working on it late am tomorrow.

Thanks in advance.

You can jump the wires to the switch to see if in fact it is the problem. Just unplug the bullet connectors and hook them together(on wiring harness side obviously). If it works fine, then fix the problem ASAP. Check for the throttle cable being adjusted too tight. Mine turned out to be the switch itself, $30 to replace. There should be some slack in cable when at idle. If mine was bypassed, I would be sledless and have a new garage door as well as the ppl across the street. Have a good time riding weekend. It may be the last, hopefully only for a while. I am not familiar with Venture models.

Over 7000 miles on it. It wants to go, but can't. I'll check the clutches. It revs fine with the track off the ground.

I'll also try to bypass the tors. Along with a couple other things.

A 97 venture 6 is really just a 600 mountain max with a 2up seat.

Sorry for posting in the srx PV category.

I'd first try loosening the throttle cable ensuring plenty of slack.

If it'll rev above 6-7k with the track off the ground I'd look at the clutches.

Clutches were checked out last year and were fine. What on clutches could act like this?

I've got a feeling the switches on tors are acting up. I'll try to free them, then disable tors, and try flipping the ethanol switch. I've seen some guys say that it fixes similar sounding issues. Doesn't make sense, but its worth a try.

You say it revs fine with the track off the ground (unloaded) yet won't under load. Broken secondary spring?

A slightly too tight throttle cable can activate tors intermittently.

The clutch can bind if the bushings are worn out. I have had this happen on my 600 and I thought I blew it up at first. Sounds like it is one of these two problems.

I doubt the throttle cable is too tight, but I'll check that. I'll check secondary spring. That would be easy to replace, right? There a yami dealer in town

Got it fixed. It was just crust on the tors switch on the thumb throttle. Thanks for all your help!

Clutches all good, rebuilt before last season with new bushings, springs, weights.

I've put a few miles on the trails already today, actually just stopped at a bar.

Have a great weekend guys!
