Possible quick carb cleaning on Vmax ER?

What does the piston wash look like and what circuit was that plug read? Plug doesn't look lean to me but the wash will tell you more. Plug looks fairly new, takes some time to get good color on new plugs.

Mids/needle circuit. Piston wash looks great. Old plugs. I agree that the rest of the plug looks great in that pic. Theirs still that white ridge around the electrode. It's hard to see in the pic. I won't be able to work on it again until dec.27th. I'm ganna take it out to the groomed trails then. I'll post pics.
 
I have a new battery that I'm currently charging. I hope it helps. One thing I just noticed is that my voltage regulator is making a buzzing noise after I turn the sled off with the kill switch and the key/ignition is still on. It prob does it while it's running too, I just can't hear it. Seems like maybe the dead battery is causing a massive power draw. I'm hoping that it's what's causing my problem ( effecting the spark curve).
 
I put the new battery in. Electric start is awesome! The headlight is nice and bright and the regulator isn't making that buzzing noise anymore. I might be testing the sled out tomorrow, I'll keep u's posted on the final results.
 
Okay now that I'm back on a desktop computer I went back and looked at the first plug picture you posted and even that looks right to me (not lean at all). Plugs aren't supposed to look wet or black. They should be tan (which is light brown). I stand by my previous comment, you could have been riding this safely a week ago.... just like the previous owner who put 10,000 miles on it.

I agree, certainly doesn't look lean like whats been described for 15 pages. I'd still like to know what exactly the method for taking that plug read was though. Pic looks to be taken inside. So were plugs pulled trailside and changed for another set to get back? otherwise you don't have a good mid circuit read. I just can't bring myself to say it's fine, ride it. with some of the descriptions previously, I'd feel guilty if he went out and burned down.

I think it will be fine. I agree about it mostly looking slightly rich. But there's a white ridge on there that's hard to see from the pic. Plus, I went out a few days ago, pulled the plugs after a mid range circuit run, the plugs were super white, and the tops of the pistons looked "glittery". I'll be running it tomorrow night for sure. I'm hoping that it'll be fine. Fingers crossed!

I hear you, a burn down would be depressing. According to my manual the stock v-max 600 jetting is good down to -20C at sea level on regular gas and the OP hasn't listed any reasons why his jetting would suddenly be lean now. I.E. possibly if he had purchased it from a mountain rider, or from a southern state.

I purhased it locally. I'm at sea level. The original owner said that he freshened it up with new pistons and rings last season just cause it was getting high on milage ( weather his story was true or not). I'm guessing that he attempted to richen the sled up by adjusting the needles, but ended up lowering them instead of raising them. He mostly dDid u get that starter on your car?rove up and down the river system here. He may have thinned the head gasket aswell, but I'm not sure. That would explain the lean spot and also the 130+ psi in all 3 jugs.I lost his contact info. Either way, I'll be riding it tomorrow and paying close attention to the piston wash.
 
130psi is stock, that's what both of mine measured. Check your fuel economy and oil consumption (start with full tanks and then measure how much it takes to get back to full).
 
After having lift the needles higher than stock, it seems to be much closer to how I want it to burn. I can live with it. Still not A-1. But it seems to work great and it's not heating up real bad or anything. Here's a pick of a plug after putting 155 Kms on lastnight.
