121 to 136?

I am trying to figure out if I want to go to a 136" track or not. I have a 121" x 1 1/4" ripsaw with 132 studs and 8 tooth drivers. Would I lose speed if I went to 9 tooth drivers and a 136" x 1" with around the same number of studs. Or even staying with 8 tooth drivers and getting a 1 1/4" with around the same number of studs. I would also be changing from proaction to monoshock suspension. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks
 
i put the 136 inch and a quarter ripsaw on my srx with a mach z suspension and it is night and day on bumps and also in deep snow i would defiantly recommend it but i did lose some top end
 
I am leaning towards the cobra track and leaving 8 tooth drivers in. How much top end would you say you lost. I can deal with a couple mph lost except when I get to finally race the new 800's lol.
 
Mine is a 136 pro action with revalved shocks. It's great in the trial. It's a 1 1/4 ripsaw with ALOT of studs and 8 tooth. I had to regear to 24/38 to get back close to stock gear ratio. The 8 tooth gobbles up some top end for sure. Also have to grind a tooth off your speedo key to get your speedo to read accurate. I saw 103 mph on Sunday but my sled is also piped and clutched. I'm still working in it. I'd say you could get 110mph with a good trail setup. Youll have to start thinking of clutching as well...
 
Jaydougempire, I am guessing you have a viper(since it says that's what your sled is). I should have said I have a 99 srx. I have it clutched pretty good, thanks to mrviper. I have the speedometer housing from a mountain max so that is right for the 8 tooth drivers. I have 23/37 gearing right now. Should I try a 24 tooth top gear? Sounds like that would be good. The way it feels now is it needs more gear. Thanks for the input.
 
I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with the 136. Now I just have to figure out what I want for a track. I am a fan of studs but I also feel like I could gain a little by going 9 tooth drivers and then maybe play with gearing a little. Does anyone have any input on the ice ripper tracks? It doesn't seem like there are as many options for the 136. Thanks again
 
Thanks. If I wanted to try a 24t top gear is there a specific gear I have to get to match my stock chain? I will do more searches on that. Also would I need a tunnel extension for the 136?
 
How would a 136 x 1" hacksaw be compared to my 121 x 1 1/4" ripsaw in the deeper snow? I'm thinking the extra length would make it comparable to my ripsaw if not better.
 
If I where to do it all again I would do a 1 inch studded hacksaw and stick with 9 tooth for a trail sled. Honestly I would put a Doo skid in it from a renegade. And heel clickers. This ripsaw got chewed up...Back country set up would be different and your into a totally different clutch setup. What are you trying to get out of the sled? What type of riding do you do?
 
I do probably half miles miles on northern Michigan trails and the other half open field and road riding here in Indiana. I like the track setup I have right now. seems to work but I don't like the fact the ripsaw seems to break lugs easily. I have a mrviper clutch setup now. I am not worried if I have to tweak the clutch setup. I might try the hacksaw studded and switch to 9 tooth drivers and then I can mess with gearing later. Thanks again guys
 
That's what I was hoping. I don't have much experience with lug sizes yet. I went from my 96 vmax with stock track straight to the 1 1/4" track on this srx. Never rode much of anything in between. Thanks for all the input.

For the riding you stated, the Hacksaw w/ studs is best possible combo. It is a deadly 1-2 punch on the trails and respectable elsewhere.

If it was me putting a Hacksaw on, I'd run the track on the tighter side and put 1.175 Warthogs in the double backer position. Leaving the singles w/ nothing in those holes. This is on Camoplasts pre-drilled tracks. Hacksaw model TR9043H.

That track is already set up and molded with places for car studs. As seen on the TR9028. I would put Bergstroms trail grabbers in a good portion of those pre molded holes.
