Okay guys, new to the form and new to Yamaha sleds, Traded my Raptor 660 for a Vmax 700 tripple. The guy gave me extensions to make it a 136 so just trying to find a track but have a couple questions. Can i move the sleigh back and make into a 144? if so does anyone have a template or know the measurements? Another thing is Gearing, what is stock gearing in a MM vs a VMAX, or is there some kind of setup you guys like, im thinking a 1 1/4 or 1.5 track not sure yet depends on which one is cheaper. also about the head gasket mod, is it safe? i ride in alot of powder so she is to the bar most of the time with the higher compression is she going to blow? and last but not least is there any tricks on getting the front end a little higher? been reading on viper shocks and stuff but might just grab a set from ebay, what lengths can i go with? thanks alot guys in advanced.

common long track trick on that chassis is to relocate the skid to 2000 and up specs and use rail extensions to pick up the extra length if your going 144. i did a bunch of those back in the day. i have the measures somewhere.

if you ride such deep powder, why sell yourself short on the track? swap your drivers to 8t and run a 2" track. 2" tracks should be much more readily available.

to bring the front end up a bit, swap tie and rad rods for the narrower mountain max length and use viper arms and spindles. no shocks needed.

head gasket mod is very safe when using good fuel. min 91 octane and no ethanol.

right on, thanks for the info, all i run is 91 in all my toys, just for piece of mind, and those measurements would be amazing, and didn't think i could run two inch that easily, do i have to take off the tunnel protector? the guy who i got it from already did some drop down brackets for the 121, i live in northern Ontario so we get a nice bit of snow up here and all my buddies ride freerides or summits so i would like to be able to keep up to them in the snow this year.

Also, what about gearing, should I leave it stock? Or go with 20/40, I'm debating on buying a summit 800 146, so if I can get almost the same fun out of this without spending 6000 grand would be better, I run and automotive department so parts from parts canada and kimpex are easy to get and much cheaper lol

On gearing and clutching your gonna wanna ditch that short cover and them stock 8ch weights as well. I think thats about where i am at on my 136 1 3/4 97 sx 700 on gears. I am running hauck launching weights little heavy on them still but hard to tune with 2 low comp cylinders. O well that was last yr.

If your gonna be in the powder most of the time, drop to 8 tooth drivers just like snowdad said. That way your 23/40 stock gearing coupled with the 8 tooth drivers would give your a final drive of 1.96:1

Thanks for all the advice, going to keep searching for the specs on the skid relocation, might not have to buy a summit after all lol, so for the gears, should I go with the 13w or 15w and if I do 22/40 do I have to get the 68 chain? Was browsing parts today and seen the different ones and been ready up on it and guys are saying certain years have certain sizes, but I would like to go with heavy duty just for piece of mind

If you go to something like a 20/40 you would need a 68L. But with a 22/40 you won't. Don't be afraid to try other combos, 21/40 also still use the 70L. My MM700 is using 19/39 - 68L and 8T extrovert drivers and a 144" x 2-1/4" track. It does have lots of top end (maybe 75mph tops...). But boy does it snap! Stick with the 13 wide stuff, that way you won't have to replace everything. My 700sx has a 144" x 1-1/4" track and 21/40 gears and 9T drivers, it's my trail sled. Pretty snappy, but also has some good top end (right around 100mph).

thanks for pointing that out about the chart, didn't see that, ill look at some parts today, i love speed but when it comes to jumping on the snow we ride powder, it's 250 for a trail pass so we touch the trails to get across that mostly it, or when they have the free trail pass weekend, other than that we ditch bang, so can i buy drivers and that for a MM or do they have to be for a Vmax, is there any difference?

Okay, so I'm thinking on sticking to 136, just go 8 tooth drivers, more then likely anti ratchets cause a buddy of mine went to 8 tooth and stuck with the four and said he had alot of ratching, going to go 21/40, hopefully check out my chain and see if it's still good to go cause don't want to spend the extra 100 on a new one, and go 2 inch paddle, do the head gasket mod, and I'm stuck on either doing a pipe or just gutting out stock, wife doesn't want to spend alot into it, but I would like to make it a bit lighter, the radius arms I found for a moutain max, just having troubles finding the tie rods, got a new supplier today for sled parts so hopefully they have something. Anything else you guys can think of? Also, what should I do for clutching, with the gearing that low will it max out quickly? Don't know much about clutches but my buddy is pretty good, but would like to k ow what you guys think

Id just wrap the pipe simply because of the powder your going to be in.
Drill the muffler for a bit more "tone".
You'll have to decide on clutch weights and spring.

Get BRAND NEW springs for the primary and secondary. 17 year old springs are probably tired. And a brand new belt will will bring it all together. Page 78 & 79 for the 1998 line-up.

so looking for drivers and Kimpex has these ones, they say the are for deep lug track, but was told if you went with anti ratchets then you only need two, but it's giving me numbers fro Center and Lateral ones, and also. Which shaft size is a 98 VMAX is it 1" or 1 1/16"04_108_60.jpg04_108_61.jpg04_108_61_OTH4.jpg

I know, don't believe they are, but the extroverts none of my suppliers have and I'm to cheap to spend 139 bucks a driver from royal when I can get 4 for 100 from kimpex, the ones I ordered says they are for deep lug tracks and was reading a post and the guy said you can use two of one parts number(the extroverts) or 4 of the ones I ordered, 2 outside snd 2 inside
