4 years and still can't figure it out

you will never believe it guys!!!! back last year when i changed out my stator i actually never tested the sled after to make sure it was all good, but it was dieing off on power on top just like the problem i have been having all this year too, and the years back i had clutching problems and powervalve problems. so this year i kept trying to find my issue because it was doing the same damn thing as last year and i was sooooo upset. but any ways, this spring i set it up for slp pipes because i thought them aaen pipes were the problem last year. sooooo anyways!!! i spill the beans as i am extremely angry with my self. buutttttttt when doing my float height settings, two days ago.... i was checking over everything in my carbs! like pulling the needle valves out and seeing if they were egged or worn from my needles or something. well then i started really checking into things and looked at my main jets and the pto was a 160 center was a 160 and my mag was suppose to be a 162.5....... i looked real had as i was just about having a damn stroke , and it read 167.5!!!!!!!!!!! i walked over and looked in the mirror and called myself plenty of wonderful names. through the sled back together and it runs like no other!! i will be sure this year to be able to run down my brother viper (snoprokidf6)

That'll do it. It can be so hard to read them jets wish there was another way to identify them.

Well ever all the hell I put myself through and complaining lol I will have to load up a video of this thing running good.

Glad to hear you figured it out. It's amazing how a majority of our work is on the carbs and it usually comes back them despite our best efforts. It's certainly happened to me a few times.

I'm just super glad its good to go, I'm a pro at taking the sleds apart now and fixing them, with in the last four years I have went through three chassis, 2 suspensions, three sets of pipes and finally happy with my end result. Motors is still good and the reason I ride these things. Alot my friends say I am stupid for back country sledding on a Yamaha triple.... until I climb past them!!!

Yammitrip1, what length track are you running? Just curious since you said you did some suspension work.

If only I would have seen this earlier. I had that same issue on my piped viper years ago. I also had EGT gauges on my so I could see when the fire went out. Mine was good for either idle or WFO but if you midranged it, it would puke out the MAG cylinder. I had previously put a XCR800 38mm rack on it, and at some point I decided to put the stock carbs back on. I had cannibalized my stock rack for screws and clips for the 38s and didn't want to get in that habit of swapping parts back and forth on the carbs, so I picked up a complete set for cheap on the ebay and put my jetting in it. Well the first decent trip out is when this happened with the fire going out and I was not in a position to tear into things. I ended up swapping all of the parts I needed from the new stock rack to my original stock rack when I got home and had no problems, but when you talk about float levels, the MAG float was set lower then the other two. I figured that was the problem, but just ended up putting the original rack of and never had a problem after that. I have since gone back to my XCR rack just because the tuning is much more predictable and I get better mileage.

curious, I don't see how a main jet would make it run bad at low to mid ...when its never into the main until 3\4 throttle. It would stumble and run bad at wot , not thru mid.

Doesn't it flow through the main jet at low rpm's also? I can feel the difference if I swap the mains on my srx.

I've had multiple issues in the past, (stator, power valves ,etc) so possibly I didn't explain that but that's what I was referring to with low rpm. Or it could of been the part where I'd ride it around and cylinder is so flooded it would run like crap on bottom end to

Thank you, this was informative. I am wrong when I thought main jets make a difference at low rpm. Now, what is the difference between jet needle and needle jet?

But then again, why does the manual state this?Tuning.jpg

the jet needle is the size of the needle that goes into and out of the needle jet
