Power for EGT's on 2001 Redhead

[MURDER YAMAHA]

Need to find a good spot to get power for a 2001 SXR wiring harness.

I used to use the brown wire that was an un used 12V up by the headlight on my 1997, but
the new harness has the exact same plug, but the pin and brown wire are no longer used on the newer harness.

Where is the best place to get power on the 01-02 sleds?

The unused reverse plug in that is right around the stator. There will be a plug that isn't plugged into anything.

K, that would work, but would like to find something up by the headlight.
Wonder if I could tap into a gauge light?
I don't understand wiring much, AC, DC ect.
Just need to know what color wire I can use, lol...

Your EGTs will be under the windy? I mounted my to the handlebars. That why I suggested the unused reverse cannon plug.

There is a plug down by your recoil thats used for electric start. I made a nice little harness with an inline fuse to plug right in. Works good, looks factory

I like that, and may use that idea, but isn’t there something in the headlight area to tie into?

Im sure there is. I didn't want to cut anything. All my stuff will come right back off like it was never there.

Have you seen these wire taps. If removed, you would just need a dab of liquid tape where the guillotine taps into the copper.

Yes, those are what I used with my 600 twin installed.

Just need to know what wire to clamp it on.
Is the power up at the headlight DC? Same as the reverse power wire?

In theory....shouldn't I be able to splice into a blue power wire that go to the gauges for backlighting ?

I wouldn't see why not. The absolutely only thing to keep in mind is if the amp draw from the EGTs are compatible w/ that wire size. Keep in mind .... I am the furthest thing from being a sparky!!!! Just using common sense.
I would add that if you have LEDs in your cluster, your probably just fine.
