Comet 108 tuning

So here is the latest. We've had some decent snow, so I've done quite a bit of testing. The result has been this. No matter what I do, I cannot get over 80mph while riding in a field. With the exact same setup, on a hard pack road, I accelerate over 90 easily. I for the life of me cannot figure out why this would be. I've changed secondary springs, primary springs and weights. All the way from a Blue primary to a Silver/Black Primary and a Purple primary. Nothing changes the end result. I've even played with the Helix.

At this point I am left to wonder if there isn't something else wrong. I did notice a few times that when I was removing the secondary it would slip and then catch once and a while. I like to keep the key towards the top, so I would spin the secondary slightly moving the sled forward. This is when I would get a slight "slip". I can't imagine that's normal, and it makes me wonder if there isn't something else going on.

Okay, so I know I've said this before, but I actually think I've finally made progress. I started to question if the clutches were out of alignment so I dug around for the alignment tool. Once I found it, I measured the alignment and it looked like they were just barely off (hard to tell because the tool is a little thin at the end to measure). So I added the thinnest of a spacer as I could behind the secondary. The result? Well I went from racing up to 80 and hitting a wall to now getting up to 90 and beyond. Seems hard to believe that tiny little change made that much of a difference, but well, it did.

Now that I have that solved, I'm waiting for my tempa flow to arrive to install. I'm running very fat right now, so I'm excited to see how the sled will run once it's properly tuned.

I still will play with the clutching a little to see if I can squeeze more out of it, but for now, I'm satisfied that it's finally running mostly correct.

Installed the TempaFlow system. It was stupid simple to do. Noticed an immediate difference in the sled. Before, I was way over jetted. EGT's were around 800-900 mid range and 1100 WOT. Instantly shifted to 1100 in the mid range and 1250-1300 WOT. Definitely making more power. The issue I'm having now is that I seem to be out of tune with my clutching now. The primary was getting really hot. So I went to a heavier spring/weight combo thinking I needed more grab on the belt. Made the change and the primary was still really hot. Perhaps I need to loosen my secondary spring, but I thought I did when I switched from the yellow secondary spring to the blue secondary spring that was recommended on here before. Not sure what to do for sure at this point.
