Replacement cable for powervalves

I have seen more than a few threads form people that cannot get new pv cables for their SRX but I do remember seeing someone say they made one or two using the old cable sheath with some steel cable they sourced from somewhere.Does anyone have a size and source for bare cable that will fit and work in the stock sheath? I am fortunate to have a couple spare cables for my '98 but they are one of the ones discontinued from Yamaha and at some point I can foresee needing to replace the steel cable.

If we are talking about the 1998 models, why not just move the servo motor back to the new location and use the 99 and up cables?
