My take is at least half of the staff should have been fired going back about twenty years ago. Somewhere along the line the top brass at Yamaha lost their passion, and /or some of the employees.
Unlike the staff from their boat or motocross division, which is thriving because they keep innovating and driving forward.

Listen to a snowmobile podcast last year talking to Greg Maier(former top brass for snowmobiles at yamaha USA)..He basic said the final round of EPA emission standards(very strict)never were put into effect
.This pretty much killed yamahas four-stroke only plan
of owning a profitable chunk of the snowmobile market(Needed two-strokes to be non existent/tiny percentage like the ATV and PWC world).Were lucky it lasted until this year because in 2004 they were ready to pull the plug
..As far as marketing the Doo crew are kings of spin,pretty hard to out Doo them
