Hello I recently removed the reeds on my 95 VK540 and found one reed box/cage had the rubber vulcanized material separating from the aluminum block. I have been searching online and the used ones I find are looking like they will start falling apart also.
I can get a new cage with reeds from a 2017 Yamaha VK540 for a decent price compared to stock new for my sled.
The 1995 and 2017 Yamaha VK540s use the same head and the same cylinder head ( I believe the engine is the same 540xx two stroke) . The carbs are different for the two years.
It looks like the reed cage will bolt right on seeing it's the same head. The reeds on the newer 2017 VK look transparent and maybe that because they are a lighter (weight wise) reed.
I am wondering if anyone here knows if I can swap them into my 1995 Yamaha VK540? Maybe it would be a *performance* upgrade?
