ViperTrippleXXX and others on my burning viper

Back to the SRX CDI and operating above 9000 rpm where it starts to retart. Is this not a benifit exspecially at that high of an RPM? On a long lake run the retarded timing should benifit the setup shouldn't it? Along the same line that you would run a high speed retard on a race car motor.
Anybody have an old viper head gasket shim they can mail me? I alway throw away a gasket a week before I need it. I'm going to throw another shim in with my opticool to get the right quench. I almost think I should run orings in the oring grooves to eliminate the possibility of any water leaking into the grooves and into the cylinder. I don't think it is now, but it shouldn't hurt should it?
 
Retarding the timing is good, but the srx box starts earlier than the viper, with to much of a good thing. it's used by yamaha as a rev limiting device. I'd run the o-rings, couldn't hurt.

why would you want to rev it up over about 86-8700rpm now??? because of the cpr pipes?? the REASON they were revved to 9100rpm is so that the engine would be out of the high timing section of the viper box, with a srx box, you are not gonna need to rev it that high. I thought you had access to a dyno???, put on the box and go dyno the sled to see where your power will be, its gonna be under 9000 rpm now, I will guess at 86-8700. The bender pipes run this rpm, but this is why they blow up all the time too(high timing in viper box), but with a srx box, its gonna be fine. You guys are making a big deal out of nothing. Fix the squish, install a srx box and go to the dyno!!!! your not gonna know anything till you dyno it!
 
Sounds good to me Mrviper. Thats a good enough explaination for me. And yes I do have access to the dyno. I just want to make sure its going to run good on there. Its an old high school friend that builds polaris motors. He going to let me run it just to see if I can back up anywhere close to what I said the motor should make.

I also though with my ports being under 30 mm from the top that it was going to want a higher rpm for max power.
 
Cpr pipes are tuned to 9100-9200 rpm if you run them at 8600-8700 your gonna lose around 10 hp. Don't take my word for it, talk to jeff simons, the guy who makes the pipes. If you want to run that rpm, get some different pipes. Better yet swap boxes when your on the dyno, and see what happens. Does anyone have testing box for yamablue to use? M2C.

triplexxx, youd be correct if he were using the viper box, but with a completely differnt timing curve and having the same timing on all 3 cylinders, youd be wrong. Plus he has better port timing now.

Yamablue, Just take it to the dyno, let it tell you where to run it and how high, no one here is gonna be able to tell you exactly, every engine is differnt, plus, you have all kinds of things changed, carbs, heads, compression, cdi box, pipes, etc. The only way to sort it all out is a dyno, they dont lie when operated by someone who isnt biased....lol. Alot of people on here seem to think they are a dyno.

Nope, don't think i'm a dyno, just using a little common sense, and actually have talked to the freakin guy (jeff) who makes the pipes, thats all.

You'll never get the stock SRX cdi box to rev to 9100 and if you do it won't have any power at all. With the different ignition curve you should be able to run it at the 87-8800 rpm range and not loose much if any power, but only a dyno will tell you for sure.
 
ok viperxxx, heres something to put in your pipe and smoke !! I had a set of those cpr viper pipes probally before you had your viper, I had the dyno set of the pipes(installed on mine in August of 2001),I know jeff Simon, so talking to the guy isnt a issue, heck we were both at haydays this year, he was pitted right next to us. I am sure he has told me things you dont know. Some other key things you dont know about are: the higher you rev a engine, the more power it will make, so if ya rev the motor to 10,000rpm, if the port timing and ignition timing will support it, its gonna make more hp, not torq. but hp,n so I guess he will still be down on hp because if you keep revving it its gonna make more right??? wonder why yamaha keeps the clutch spinning at 8500rpm on the new apex and rx1 sleds,apex spins at 10,500rpm, rx1 at 10,200.........hmmm, maybe the clutch is not efficent above 8500rpm???LMAO!! I have spent alot of money on the dyno, I know what happens and why, have you, and do you?? I have been the one telling him (yamablu)to dyno it, not my opinion of common stupidness, nice try at pissin me off too! Lets see how smart your fingers are:

Now, heres the scenario, a 2001 srx, race ported cylinders by myself, 29mm exh port and raised transfers, race heads with .032" squish and my squishband angle change,srx race cdi box(same curve as a viper),taper bored carbs, hauck race pipes(by the way Jeff Simon makes these, but you already knew that right, did he tell you that they are ski doo blanks and he builds them to pat's specs)where would this sled make the power since the pipes are designed to run at 10,200rpm?? I am gonna wait for your answer before telling you. I have given you the key pieces to calculate your answer with.

NOTE: I also took with me a set of bender srx race pipes "DESIGNED" to run at 9200rpm!!!!

man, to make an accurate guess at this I need a squish angle, an actual height on the transfer ports, a cc volume on the head and clearance volume on the jug (total clearance volume would work fine) charging efficiency and trapping efficiency would be handy to.

that's my 0.02, I'm not gonna get any more involved than this, but I don't think there's enough info there to calculate it

ok, not really gonna make a differance ,but: 18cc head volume, 19 degree squishband, .002" deck clearance,transfer height at 46mm

edit: BTW, your transfer ports are abit on the high side I would have only brought them to about 45.5
