Help me choose some pipes for Viper

Thanks a lot that is some great info. I am really glad you told me this and i too am going for a trail sled so this is great. Thats rotten luck about the bad gas. and the burnt down motors i already have the rear heat exchanger. I think that the viper need the rear heat exchangers are a must if you ar riding in marginal snow conditions. I think that at least now i can have a good idea of what o expect for gas milage i have hear of much worse than this on other pipes so these seem like a good choice too. :WayCool:

Thanks a lot,
Chris

The top curve (in terms of horsepower, not the number next to the curve) is SLP, second curve is bender, third is Aeen, forth is jaws, bottom is stock.

Yea thats what hammer says, but if you look at the types of horsepower curves created, and deduct that if the benders make their power lower in the rpm curve. Testing on the benders was with 165 mains and slps were at 160 mains. Look at the shapes of the curves, Slp's are a little peaky and run higher in the rpm's. Just look at the curves and imagine if the Slp's had the richer recomended jetting. M2c

I'll put my 2 cents in for the Benders since that is what my sled's running and I am very pleased with them. I mentioned in another post that the dealer who built my sled has done at least 25 Vipers with Benders and has only lost one. They had a pair burn down in Canada at the same time, one stock and one with the pipes. They attributed this to bad fuel since both went at the same time.

Mine has 3800 miles on with no problems. It does have the rear cooler, opticool gasket and V-Force reeds, but the head has NOT been altered. I'm about 600' above see level and have run it from about 5'F to 40'F+. This one is jetted to Benders specs with the airbox and venting modified likewise (165's on two cylinders, 162.5 on the other, with 50 or 52 pilots. I'm working off memory here, so I'm not 100% positive on the jetting) Might be on the richer side compared to many, but it runs great for my taste and has held together. I'm running the Bender clutching (no freaking clue on the specs here!) and she spins right around 8500-8600 with approx. 4500-4600 engagement. 10-11 MPG seems to be about average for mine. Probably better lake racer setups out there, but this thing was built for trail and works great for my riding. Hauls butt as long as there is traction! ;)!

If you are looking for traction you should try a ripsaw or a finger track. I have even heard of people who have reversed the ripsaw but am not sure if it is any good for stopping lol. :WayCool:

Yes, I'm still running the stock track with 192 Fast Trac studs. The darn stuff is still in such great shape that I just can't justify replacing it. When the conditions are ideal I can pull it right up, but under most circumstances I get a lot of track spin. I have Bender TS3 transfers, but I keep em' set for as much ski pressure as possible when I'm trail riding which is 99% of the time. I'm sure a ripsaw or even a 6 pitch would be a big help, but I'm relatively happy with the setup I have until it is worn enough to merit replacing.

SRX RIDER, I hate to doubt you but it is hard to believe you get 10-11mpg with 165 mains and 50-52 pilots. My cpr's with 157 mains and 45,45,47.5 pilots I am only getting 9mpg at best, usually around 8. My needles are also in the 3rd position so I don't think you can be any leaner than that.

I've been avg. the same Mpg as srx rider with my Bender Triples and a very similar set up. It is very possible...I guess it depends how much you ride wot. I find that with the pipes I don;t have to WOT anywhere near as much with all the extra power.

Exactly. Too much WOT on the trails I ride will buy you a tree real fast! The pipes are overkill for tight trails I guess, but when it does open up it's nice to be able to have the Viper run like it should have from the factory. I just can't say anything bad about mine. It's a great all around package for the riding I do.

Don't know what to say. This is what I can average under my normal riding. Run it harder and it goes down. I just don't get to run it very hard where I ride except for short blasts. I know it's a rich setup, but it has worked well. F&S KNOWS their stuff. ;)!

Hey everyone,

I love my viper but I think I want to uncork a little more out of her. Raced a new doo 600HO rev and he beat me when I had a bad launch! Those things are fast little buggers, especially when I used to doing that to 800's.

Anyhoo I think a set of pipes and new studs will give me what I want. What do you guys reccomend? My sled has a Fix powersports cold air kit which step down the jetting a little but to be honest can't get them to tell me what jets they used. I bought the sled with this on it so I have no idea what they, I just know they are a little fatter. It also has the best clutch kit Fix sells installed (revs to 8800-9000). Again no specs on weights or anything.

What I'm after is bolt on pipes and thats it. Is there a set out there that doesn't require jetting, different clutch work, rear exhanger, head gasket, etc?

I like the SLP because they are supposedly bolt and go, CRP seems to offer personalized cust service, Bender needs a lot of other parts to go along with them.

Help me choose, thanks a lot :rocks: :yam:

If you are going to buy a set of pipes & dont get the SLP's Wolfman has for $425.00 you are a fool! The SLP's fit very nice & work as well as the rest but just lack that sweet tripple tripple sound of the others. Forget the dyno sheets because when you line them up & run side by side on the snow its more about who is running what for clutching because they all run so close in power. As parts of Team Boondocker we run Aaens, Benders & SLP's... The sad thing is when we run into another group of non Yami riders for some racing we still endup racing each other ;)!

An FYI, at 7200 miles with 168 in the middle my track and studs looked perfect, then one day, bam, stud flaps and goes through the front exchanger. So I would recommend replacing sometime before then.

I def agre with SRX Rider because i sometimes get a lot worse milage on the lake as opposed top the trail tahat depends thought on how throttle happy i am that day heheheh ;)!

I read that the slp's won't fit on an ER because of the battery, is this true? Do the others fit on the ER?

Wow thats a good piont i will have to check it out thanks that could have been a bad thing if i went out and bought the pipes and they did'nt fit :o| thanks for looking out. I put a pipe on my 500 phazer delex and the same problem i had to relocate the batt. with bungey cords ;)!

You will need to relocate the battery for the SLP pipes as they have a larger silencer which is one of the reasons they're so quiet. I have done this on several with no problems at all.
