can someone explain to me more about this head mod? I bet yamaholic knows lol. I am seriously thinking about putting pipes in my viper because the average of you guys are getting 9-11 mpg and on my stock viper i get 11-12. I already have the rear heat exchanger. If i was going to put pipes on it, what else would I need? I have a 136" ripsaw and am most likely going to put 108 studs in it.

the head mod is to make the compression even across the board so that you don't have to run staggered jetting and so that the compression isn't so high that the hot mid-top end timing doesn't take its toll as easily. It is still a good idea to run the opticool gasket with it for cooling purposes, but the head mod really helps to control and deto. problems. Definately worth the extra money if you don't like buying pistons.

head mod is just a recut of the mag and center chamber 21cc to match the 24cc of the pto. then it is decked to make them all 23cc

The bottom line for me is that I am bored with my current 120hp. I am either going to switch brands or make this thing scare the shit out of me when I come onto it. I am throwing the idea of picking up a good used 2005 RX-1 and putting a turbo or supercharger on it. We will see. The Viper handling is hard to beat though.
yamaha makes the most reliable, quietest pipes, read bethevipers post.
think for a second about how much money yamaha poured into the SRX motor guys, if there was ANYTHING that could be done to those pipes to make 'em work better, it was done, same reason there's no aftermarket pipe that works better on a stock SRX motor.
the research and developement and simulations are done and paid for, stop making it harder for yourselves!!

the srx pipes are awesome on the vipers, but it sure is a pain to do all of the setup required to make them perform. Probably worth it though for anyone who is a big mileage rider

my head mod looks like all 3 domes where cut, you can see the cutting!
it is also machined on the deck
stock head is smooth! in the domes

then the machined the quench zones to a steeper angle to reduce detonation.
Who us Jeff and where does he work at ? Anyone have some Simmons CPR Pipes they want to sell ? Do these pipes require any mods to the hood or any other major changes ? Are they crazy loud? do you save any weight ?

The Jeff i am referring to is Jeff Simons, the owner of Simons CPR. They don't require any mods to the hood. They aren't crazy loud, but slp's are definately quieter. I'm not sure about the weight, never weighed them. Aaen's are the lightest.
Should the vent line be un-plugged from the air box? Do I just send the head to Jeff for him to cut it ?

BETHEVIPER thats a good idea how long do you think it would take to put in the things you have im interested for $700.

I would say 6 hours for someone that hasn't done it yet is a good estimation.

Thak you, yamahollic how much hp could i expect, do you think that i could beat a stock sxr with sxr pipes on my viper?

you mean SRX right, not sxr? I hope so... Anyway yea if you get your stuff set up good you should be able to take a stock srx without too much of a problem, the vipers have better porting than the srxs do in stock form. Get some good clutching and traction to go with it and you should definately be able to do some damage.

anyone have an idea what Jeff charges to do the head mod?
how does the mod compare to a set of mega or peak heads?

I believe it is around 100 bucks for him to do the head mod. The aftermarket heads will give you better cooling, and allow you to adjust your compression, but are quite a bit more money then getting the head mod.
