HI guys,
I have a 2000 SX700R and was wondering what would perform better.
Porting or puting tripple pipes.
Right now I have clutch kit, 2 layers removed from head gasket and the standard reed spacers.
What would give me the biggest bang.

pipes!
Just a note:
I think you may want to only have one layer of head gasket removed if you do go with tripple pipes. Two layers removed is ok with single pipe and only remove one layer with triple pipes. Not going by experience just going by being around this site since the start.

Tod, yes there is no doubt that if I go to tripples I will have to go with one layer remeoved.
I dont want to spend lots of money but want better snap and get up and go on take off and out of corners.

Tod, who's pipes are those?
Looks like a good fit.

Psi
Those are PSI's, not really a favorite of the group. They look good now but they did not fit when I got them had to cut and weld to make them fit right. Sent the first set back and the second set did not fit eaither so I made them fit. Had to cut one pipe and reposition on the silencer pack.

pipe it then if you want more-port it
Pipes are the way to go, porting on a single pipe with a triple yields barely noticeable results, there is just too much trying to get out thru 1 opening. The pipes will yield 20+ hp, every brand is a bit differnt but all of them are a giant increase. i used to run a set of hauck pipes, they were made by CPR and they were very good performance. I cant even begin to explain the differance you will notice, But I bet I can see a smile on your face after the pipes go on. Dont forget youll have to clutch it to take a hold of all the new power.

pipes are definately the way to go. like everyone says porting is only a small gain with stock pipe. the pipes will for sure get you atleast 20 hp. just piped my viper with cpr hauck pipes this year and it is an insane jump in power.

Thanks for the replies guys.
MRViper, yes I know I will need clutch changes if I go with pipes. I have been playing with my clutching and have an assortment of parts which will hopefully get me where I want to be.
I guess the hunt is on for pipes.

yes the SRX comes stock with tripple pipes and the powervalve motor.
The SXR is a single pipe non power valve motor.
There is a lot of HP difference between the 2 machines.

Head Gskt
Have run since 01 SLP Triples and one layer head gskt with no trouble in over 10,000 Kilometers. 01 SXr 700 at 8900 rpms. Been bulletproof.

gild, is that one layer removed or one layer left on the machine.
Removing 1 layer is safe. Removing 2 layers can be unreliable.

gas
Yamaholic I have been running Marked Gas for boats ( Purple Gas) which is premium fuel with no road tax. We have been running that stuff for 3 years now and no one has had any issues. My Buds 00 Modded out MM even has his timing advanced and its been fine.

hey tod i didnt know that you cut your pipes. mine dont fit for shit...im the one that got the jetting specs off you. do you have pics of where you cut them and stuff...idk if ill cut them tho they have burnt a hole in my plastic and wore down some metal so they fit fine now i guess that its fine now lol. just looks shitty when the pipes come out.
