I got one of those. Shave the heads 25-30 thou & add 2 more base gaskets(Cheap 6 hp). Add a set of reed spacers. Make sure clutches are aligned & centre to centre is good. Sled should be pulling 82-8400 rpm at wide open throttle. They all overreved badly & you need to change the clutching to bring down rpm,s...adding the 00-02 SRX 8DN-20 primary weights with a 4.5 gram inner & outer rivet & a w-w-w primary spring works great

yes but...
Yes what he said, and a dual angle helix (51/43, 54/44) and a smaller upper gear (1 tooth) will really wake this mountain climber up.

OZ which dual angle helix would you recommend to keep it a decent trail sled also. i love boondocking and hill climbing...but alot of the time we dont get the snow needed here in western pa, so you have to stick to the groomed trails.
52/42 on the helix agle for trail riding 8BU-00 with 4.5 grams in the tip and 12mm of shims in the primary
mountain riding you should use the stock helix and 8DN-20 weights.

BTW nice sled!! mine looks exactly like yours. we have the same windshield
except i have the 2002 DCS gauge for dual bulb and a dual headlight. i swapped everything over from the 02 to the 98 chassis engine and electrical including the seat. is that a 136 or did you extend to 144??

yes but...
I've had plenty of success with the following setup in the foothills of the Canadian rockies and on the flats of the prairies, ...not radical but left of center;
- 2" paddle track w/ 8T drivers, ...I would suggest no more than a 1.5" for groomed trails
- I've put a reverse on my machine and changed my upper gear to a 23T, lower is 39T and with the 8T driver, ratio is around 190 (exclusive mountain riding go higher by dropping top couple of teeth)
- Maxperf adjustable transfer rods
- Set the straps midway, mid adjust on the center shock, softer at the back
- Turk's primary clutch setup (best setup I've found for all around conditions)
- I'm using a 54/44 helix w/ stock spring and it runs more aggressively than the stock mountain 47 helix (70 squeeze)
- Of course a good 8DN belt and proper centre to centre and belt height adjustment
- The engine is stock and will remain that way, ...she's ultra reliable and pretty darn good on gas, ...for a 2 stroke!
