I've had plenty of success with the following setup in the foothills of the Canadian rockies and on the flats of the prairies, ...not radical but left of center;
- 2" paddle track w/ 8T drivers, ...I would suggest no more than a 1.5" for groomed trails
- I've put a reverse on my machine and changed my upper gear to a 23T, lower is 39T and with the 8T driver, ratio is around 190 (exclusive mountain riding go higher by dropping top couple of teeth)
- Maxperf adjustable transfer rods
- Set the straps midway, mid adjust on the center shock, softer at the back
- Turk's primary clutch setup (best setup I've found for all around conditions)
- I'm using a 54/44 helix w/ stock spring and it runs more aggressively than the stock mountain 47 helix (70 squeeze)
- Of course a good 8DN belt and proper centre to centre and belt height adjustment
- The engine is stock and will remain that way, ...she's ultra reliable and pretty darn good on gas, ...for a 2 stroke!
