cant get sled to run right! i have a 97 700 sx and it ran fine before i pulled the airbox off of the sled to fix a crack, i had to pull the coils off. I then put everything back together and now the ignition timing is way off, it runs really ruff and backfires real bad ,and will not gain rpm. :o| It is getting fuel and spark to all 3 cylinders, the only thing i can think of is maybe i got the coil order got mixed up when i put them back on? It just seems light it is firing all at the wrong times. I put the coils back on so the first coil goes to cylinder 1, then 2 and 3.The coil that has the orange wire to it is on #3. Please help!! mayme someone can post a pic so i can make sure i have them right? thanks

Them coils have a sealed wires. They are all differant lenghts. The longest one goes to the MAG side, the shortest one to the middle and the last one to the PTO side. It is basicly the same set up I have in my 2000. Try that. There are plugs on each coil only go one way. If this doesnt help, I'll post you a picture of how the wires are run. Let me know.

i actually dont have the owners manual anymore, that is what i figured, they have different lengths and would be pretty hard to get them mixed up, but somehow something got mixed up, If you could post a couple close pics that would help quite a bit i think. thanks

What is the maxx rpm you are seeing right now? It almost sounds like you are setting off the TORS which is possible as 700sx throttle cable sits on the air box.

Bypass the tors, and see what happens. I'll find my 700 sx owners manual(after thewedding) and send it to you. Maxdlx

Same problem happend to me... its probally the TORS it will go to bout 4 grand and wont go any higher? then it would backfire when you let off? thats the same thing that happend to my Sx 600 Twin

may be a stupid question but what is the TORS?

Throttle over ride system. If I'm not mistaken, it is a system that over rides your throttle lever and won't let you go over a certain rpm. This happens if there is some type of malfunction with the throttle system. It can be by-passed by simply diconnecting the two wires on the throttle assembly and plugging them into each other. That is all I know about it. When I baught my SXR, the T.O.R.S. was already bypassed. Must be a pain or something. Not to sure though. Someone on here will have a better explanation, that I am sure of. I'll get you a few pics tomorrow of what It looks like to bypass the TORS and the way the coils are soppose to be wired. I never thought of the TORS before like I said, mine was already bypassed. Now that I think about it, that could be your problem like the othere were saying.

The easiest way that I have found to set off the TORS is to have the throttle cable adjusted incorrectly to the idle... Back off the cable adjustment, set the idle, and then adjust the cable.

Adjust the idle, turn the screw until it idles down. As mentioned before, there must be something wrong in order for the tors to kick in. Check the throttle cable ajustment.

i turned the idle screw all the way down and even adjusted the cable, it wont idle down, and when i give it throttle when it is idling like that, it wont gain rpm and just bogs. Could it be a stator or something like that?

Startin to get out of my league now. I'm not going to say something I don't know anything about, and just guess. Might make things worse. TODD offered for you to call him, I would try and call him before it gets to late. I'm only knowledged enough to get me by, It's tuff to help out by postings and not having the sled in front of me. Give TODD a call, hopefully he can help you out, maybe. Good luck, man. Hope you get it right.

Sounds like you might have an air leak. make sure your carb boots are all on OK.. Tod worked at a Yamaha dealer, he knows his 700 sx pretty well. try and loosen the throttle cable adjustment up, maybe it is still to tight. Maxdlx

I talked to him but was unable to get him dialed in. I think it will be something easy once he retraces his steps.

Mine started to backfire when my stator went out. Hopfully this is not your issue - Mine started at about 5000 miles. Also my spark plug caps were out of spec but that is more of a hard starting issue.

Just seems weird that his was fine before removing the air box and now its not - that is why I told him to just retrace all the steps and try to find something.

Went over checking the throttle cabe to make sure its not pulled out at some place............... ???????????????? And he has done the TORS bypass.?????

Tod :o|

Make sure you check the choke plungers to make sure they are all the way closed. Maybe the choke is open some. Maxdlx

Also check the throttle lever to make sure the cable isn't seated in it wrong, thus giving hi idel. Maxdlx
