Blue SX,s came out in 99. They were quick that year. 00,s were mediocre but 01,s went well. Don,t know what they did to em but some years were better then others.

I love the way my Viper Handles. Its handles like its on rails. I always have the cheapest fill up in the group at fuel stops. It runs hard all day without any problems. I have the updated shocks. I am still trying to dial in the suspension. I recommend adding 4.5gram tip weight to the primary clutch and a tourque limiter. Those mods really help to put the power to the snow. I like my 2" riser as well. The sled just seems to handle so much better with the 2" bar riser. Its because you have so much more control with the riser. I would go with the Viper "S" if I would do it all again however I do like my blue Viper though.

I like my viper quite a lot great trail sled. not the best in the ditches, but it handles rough trails well enough now that I have it revalved. better mileage for gas and oil than the 600 non powervalved engines. ride with three of the 600's and they all use nearly twice the oil and I get about 2-3 mpg better. lots more low end grunt as well. quieter. I guess I am saying dont get a venom over a viper loL!

I love my viper, It is rough on the bumps (02 model) and I like my seat. Cutting corners is no problem with the viper. Big bumps are no problem. I beat my sled into the ground every year and have never had a problem.

The pros of the viper........
Typical yamaha reliability with exceptional fit and finish,
Great MPG stock,
Great small bump/tight/twisty trail sled
The cons of the viper......
Heavy compared to competition,
Underpowered compared to competition,
Old technology compared to competition

What do you mean by "old technology"?
Its got powervalves, its got knock sensors and its got by far the most high-tech gauges of it's era. Just because the other manufacturers decided to save money by going with twins doesnt mean that the triples are antiquated.

no twins aren't antiqueted, but carburators are technology from about 1910

because it isnt a joe snocross looking beast. must be old just the other sleds have been updated since then, the viper hasnt. although ANY sled that is an 02 would be old tech by now.... its still a nice sled, old or not. get one and enjoy the sweet "dinosaur" song of the tripple at full bore

What do you mean by "old technology"?
Top three reasons are....
proaction rear suspension is old technology and heavy,
trailing arms are old technology, and
non-rider forward chassis is old technology.
Some other gripes about in general......
no electronic reverse is old technology,
no diamond drive is old technology,
heavy is old technology, and
underpowered is old technology.
I like my viper, I really do and it is a good machine. It is just getting a little long in the tooth compared to what the other three is throwing out there. If yamaha would drop a set of tripple pipes stock on the viper with their new rear skid, with apex style seat and bars (for a more rider forward position), and a set of fox floats or new GYT piggy backs up front then they would have a sled that would be what 60 pounds lighter than the apex and only slightly less power and be more capable as a ditch banger and mountain sled. My viper has been great to me and this will be my 4th season on it, but my next sled will not be a yamaha.
