The seller has still not removed your sled from autodb. Thought you wanted to know.
Hi thanks for all the replys Norwegian
.
I asked the seller about the power valves, he had cleaned them not too long ago.(it was less then a year since he got it, so it can`t be that long ago). I will clean them after this season if I don`t see any signs of bad performance.Or, I guess the only thing I need are those tiny gaskets, so I guess it`s a cheap fix?.
I will never pay a dealer for checking the chaincase oil level, I`ve replaced a few chains in my life so I think I should be able to do it
. I guess there is an oil-level screw?. Unscrew it and fill oil until it comes out of the hole. The chain tension should only be finger tight right?. And then 1/4 turn back?.
I`ve ordered parts from ronnies.com before, great shop and professional people. However, they don`t accept VISA cards so you have to go to the bank and arrange a bank wire, so if motorspeed.no has the parts I need, I think I will order them from them, a brake lever, hood strap, and light bulbs will not cost that much. But I agree that ordering parts from USA is a money saver. Today I got graphics for my dirtbike (2001 KX250) and I saved about 700nkr on that deal!.
The rollers in the primary roll`s like heal and the bushings are nice and tight. There is no slack in the main bushing either so I don`t think the primary need`s a rebuild.
Yes, I have noticed that the sled is till on Autodb. I told him and he said that he had lost the password that he needed to remove it. I don`t care actually my phone wount be ringing, hehe.
All of the guys that I ride with has mounted the license plate at the same place as mine. I think it looks wierd to mount it on the hood, doesn`t belong there, ruins the sleds look
.
Gees, it`s so nice to have a sled that isn`t perfect, that you can work alittle on. On the RX-1 there was nothing to fix.. hehe.
Wellwell.
Thanks for all the informational replys !

I ordered those gaskets for my 2002 srx, all of them except the inner most ones, it was like 360 kr, not too bad. I don't remember how tight the chain is supposed to be. About the license plate, that's just what I have been told. If you like doing maintenance (vedlikehold) for yourself, get a shop manual for 99 srx 700. It really tells it all. You can order one from richierich here, he accepts paypal. I've bought stuff from him with no problems.
Gees I changed my mind when it came to ordering parts here in Norway, the brake lever cost 450nkr at Motorspeed!. That`s way to much.
I friend told me about this site, great site. Online store and you can pay with credit card. (you can`t do that on ronnies.com ) .
http://www.yamahaaccy.com/
They also had some accessories that I wany, some straps for the cover and new buttons for the seat "strap". By the way, the brake lever only cost 178nkr in the US.
Today I took my first ride on SRX, we got 4-5cm`s of snow tonight
. Took it for a ride on a grass field and man it seemed quick
. It seems to fire up on the 3rd pull, same as my old V-Max 600 XT.
I can wait to get some more snow now, gees.
Norwegian, the powervalves are easy to remove? or?. Do they need to be calibrated or something?.

The powervalves are easy to remove, but harder to get back on if you don't know what you're doing. In addition, you need a "powervalve tester" which tests if the valves open simoultaneously, which is important. If the previous owner cleaned them by himself, they are probably not in sych and need to be calibrated. I read somewhere that powervalves that do not open simoultaneoulsy could cost you up to 5 hp. We got 5 cm tonight, but I don't have a belly pan protector on my sled, so I can't go sledding before thursday or something.
Aha OK I see!.
How much does a powervalve tester cost then?.
The previous owner seemed to have some knowledge about sleds, or atleast his dad had, he wore a Yamaha cap hehe.
I hope we`ll get winter soon, I remember a few years ago when the snow came on christmas eve.. gees

I think it's about 30-40 usd.
Ok !.
Thanks alot for all the help Norwegian!. Where do you live by the way?. Old?.
Gees, the weather report sais we are going to get snow tomorrow !

Karasjok, 20 km from the finnish border. 25 years. You should get here in the easter time, lots of traffic, events and people
Ok I`ve never been in Finnmark but I here they say it`s worth a visit.
What do you do for living?. You don`t happen to run a motorcycle/sled workshop?. I`m in the need of an apprentice job as a motorcycle/sled mechanic you see.. .

No, I currently work at a "financial institution". But I'm quitting there and beginning as a economic.. controller.. something at one of the 2 colleges here in Finnmark. I think it's hard to get an apprentice job in Finnmark because the interrest is very high. BUT, if you want trying, you won't lose anything on it, try calling the sled shops in Alta.
OK I see
. The best for me would be to get an apprentice job near my home, but it`s almost impossible because there is only two shops in the nearest town, Harstad.
I think I have good chance if some shop has a job to offer me, got eleven 5`s on my "school paper" (vitnemål), one 6 and one 3. (physical eduacation, hehe).
Enough off topic chit-chat.
Today I got 4 new hose "clamps" . I noticed that the clamps used on the little hose connecting the pipes to the rear cooler obviously wasn`t good enough. (I think they are some of the standard Yamaha clamps but I guess they arent ment for this hose diameter). So a friend that works on a military workshop gave me a bag with rust free hose clamps so now it will be fixed
.
Oh, it`s snowing outside !!

Yeah it did. I guess they felt that it was "good" just because they had used the original clamps.
I`m going to change them to morrow so I figure they will stop leak.
I`m also going to change the exhaust gaskets on a 1998 V-Max 600SX and mount wider skis on it, I love to wrench on sleds.

It must be a 1997 600 sx, the 98 didn't come to norway.
Hmm it is suppost to be a 98 model! . Wierd.. .
Could be a 97 registered in 98 ?. Sled looks good though, almost mint condtion except a few holes in the seat.

It's probably registered in 98. That could be. Look at the decals, they are a little different on 97s and 98s. I think redmater here has a 98 sx
I love to wrench on sleds also. I'm a happy amateur though. Today I learnt how to remove and reinstall a seat. Hehe. I can also remove and reinstall a windshield and tweak on the secondary clutch.
Good afternoon !
.
OK, I havent wrenched that much on snowmobiles, have done quite much though, only things I haven`t fiddled with is the secondary and taken apart a sled engine. I guess the engine is rather easy to take apart, especially the two strokes, just like a moped engine, just bigger dimensions.
Today I went a girl-friend to pick up that V-Max 600. She lives about 1kilometer from house and since we`ve got some snow now I figured that I might as well ride it "home". I expected it to start pretty fast, not that long ago since we had it running. However, the last time I heard it ran, I heard that it wasn`t running clean when she stopped it. (typical, new sled, alot of start/stops without riding the sled only to show it off for your friends etc.). I pulled probably 30times before I heard the first sign of life. When it started I imediately heard that one of the plugs where fouled. I tried to let it warm up just incase it got better, but as I expected it would only bog when I hit the throttle. I rode my moped back home and got the sparkplug wrench, rode back and pulled plugs. All wet and oily. I put in the reserve plugs (which also was used, damnit, I hate it when I find used plugs in the reserve plugs holders) and it fired right up and ran much nicer. However, I think it has a glogged pilot jet or something because it didn`t run right on idle, but when I hit the throttle and got it over 3500rpm it ran like hell.
Guess I will have to pull the carbs tomorrow?. I`ve never pulled carbs on such new sleds, but I guess it`s the same as the old ones?.
Well I got the sled home and I removed the skis in order to install the new ones.
And, now I know that it`s a 97, or, I guess that the 98 came with plastic skis because I ordered skis for a 98` and the skis I got was made for plastic skis.
However, I figured that with some modifying of the steering irons I could make it fit. (I had to extend the bolts).
First I tried to extend the original bolts by welding a another "bolt" to it (cut from a "gjengestang) and then grind it down so that it was even and then rethread the whole bolt. However, this seemed to be a bad solution because one of the bolts broke off when I put the ski back on the sled. I don`t like to do bad work so I took the steering iron off again and cut of the whole bolt, like this.
I then cut new bolts and welded them onto the steering iron. This became MUCH stronger.
I put the ski back on the sled and finally everything was OK. I`ve never spent 5 hours on changing ONE sled ski, gees hehe!.
Tomorrow I`m going to do the same with the right ski (will take less time when I know exactly how to do it, when it comes to the modifying part) + I`m going to change the exhaust gaskets and clean the carbs.
A pic them. The red one was a little scared when I fired up the tripple, haha.
