Well I have it all apart and I can NOT get the fricken thing out of the block! I tried the suggestions on the boards and it just bent the seal so there is no way to pry on it any more. Any body have any suggestions and do you think I buggered the block to bad thus far?
Also this little seal like washer came with the seal any ideas on how to use it?

You didn't damaged the block. On the photo in my message, take a small screw driver and gentley hammer the lip of the seal toward the shaft. You basically have to crush the seal cup from both sides before you can get ahold of it with needle nose or locking pliers to pull it out. I just did this to my sled last year.

On the two beveled edges on the bottom case around the circular part of the seal, put the flat edge of a screw driver in there an on the outer lip of the pump seal. Then, tap on the screw driver and collapse the seal. Do this on both sides. This will pull in the edges of the seal away from the case. Be careful not to mar the case when you're pounding in the seal. It will eventually come out. Once I collapsed the outer area, I put a curved pick up through the center of the seal and pulled it out.
The other picture you have is the oil seal. That goes behind the water pump seal you're trying to remove. It may not be necessary to change it. That seal is also difficult to get out, but not as bad. Once you pull that one (if you do), residual oil will drip out from behind that seal.

Thanks guys, I got one side collapased and I am working on the other side which is more difficult cause the engine is still in the sled. That will be my plan after work tomm.
The washer goes behind the new impellar I bought. I flipped the old one over and then it hit me...duh. Problem is I touched those with my hands and doing some searching I found that isn't a good thing to do. I wanted to do everything to the sled this year myself and sometimes I wonder....

yes that is not the oil seal, it is the ceramic mating surface for the mechanical seal, goes in the back of the impeller. How are the splines on the end of the shaft and the impeller, tight fit yet or loose?

The splines seem OK, but if I grab the shaft and move toward the back of the sled and toward the front there is a tiny amount of movement back and forth.

there is supposed to be movement in that shaft, it floats between 2 bearings, there is another seal behind the ceramic seal, what was leaking out of your vent hole oil or anti freeze? That stainless piece you're prying out seals on the sides of the hole so as long as you don't catch that you're all good, all those marks you put in the case don't hurt a thing.

I used a small screwdriver which I bent the tip 90 degrees, It popped out pretty easy that way. SOC

Here is the latest on this seal from hell - one side collapsed.
800 thanks for the tip I was HOPING it only sealed on the sides and not the top lip. Also I'm glad the shaft is supposed to move slightly
Soc- I tried your method first and the tabs just bent straight up

Its OUT!!!
Holy crap I got this to pop out on my lunch break! This was a nice surprise I just kept collapsing the seal around the top of it and then she pryed right out!
Ok no here are some picts can you tell me if you think there is any damage I need to worry about, I knicked up the part where the seal lip sits on all around the hole but nothing on the sides of the hole.
I also attached my thoughts on the seal from hell
Thanks guys!!!

Get the o ring seal around the housing you take off, get the mechanical seal, impellar, and the seal that goes on the bolt that holds the impellar on. Check out xtemepowersports for michofiche and part numbers. That is where I got all my parts.
WOOO HOOO I'm so happy! Time to get started on the pipes!

Why would you replace the Impeller? Also since your in there should you replace the oil seal? Does it just slide out?

The impellar is sometimes the problem, don't know for sure when, it is $33 and cheap insurance I guess. Oil seal I left alone.

I dont think i would do another one of these without replacing the impeller. Too much play on the end of those splines and it will leak again, just a matter of time.

Yamaholic-What do you think I should do now that I touched some of the ceramic seals? Brake cleaner lightly applied??

I'd replace all the seals, including the oil seal. Might as well while your in there. No sense in taking it all apart again.

kinger, i think you should be alright, just wipe the mating surfaces off good with a clean damp with hot water towel, that should get most of the oils from your hands off. I wouldn't worry about it too much, just remember it for the future. I touched one once before too, and it worked out fine.
