1 question how do you get the dimensions so perfect on the windy? im gonna cut the top flair off of mine but i wanna make sure its now lob sided or anything
Remember making snowflakes with folded craftpapper, same concept! I used a large sheet of paper, creased it down the middle, taped it to my windy, drew the shape I wanted on one half , folded it at the crease and cut it out. Then I unfolded it , each side will be identical. Re-tape it to the windsheild and trace .VmaxSx600 said:1 question how do you get the dimensions so perfect on the windy? im gonna cut the top flair off of mine but i wanna make sure its now lob sided or anything

I just painted mine a month ago, so I don't know yet. But I painted the inside of my windy so it won't get scratched by branches or anything. I researched it abit and other guys has their windys painted for a couple of years now with no problems.
How do you go about cutting the windshield like that so that its even on both sides?
First, cut out some paper to the same shape as your windy, fold it in half so you have a straight up and down vertical crease in the center. Tape it to the windshield and draw the shape on one half, fold the paper and cut it.When you unfold it , both sides will be Identical! Dont take to much off on the first cut, you can always trim it down until you get exactly what you want.JUST LIKE MAKING SNOWFLAKES WHEN YOU WERE IN KINDERGARTEN!LOLNB-VIPER said:How do you go about cutting the windshield like that so that its even on both sides?

What should I use to cut it ? Anyone want to send me a stencil? I will send you my whole windshield if you want to do it for me for a small fee? Sno-XR. Yours looks awesome. Would you be interested ?
After I traced it on the windy, I used a jig saw with a metal cutting(small teeth) blade.
Be sure to use masking tape on the windshield so you dont scratch it with the base of the jig saw. Its really not to hard. Make a couple of patterns with colored paper so you can decide see witch one you like the best. You can always trim more off , but you cant glue it back on!!lol

I used tin snips to cut mine. I just used a highlighter and traced out the design I wanted (didn't do the cardboard thing, I did mine freehand), stood back and looked at it (did this a few times), then stood back one more time and said "Yup looks good to me". Then I started cutting.

I might attempt this if I can find the time and ambition. I like the tracing idea and using the same stencil on one side or the other. What kind of paint should I use?
I used automotive body paint with an adhesion promotor that i got from an auto-body supply. Also , like Venom stated, paint the inside of the shield to help protect the paint from branch's and anything else.NB-VIPER said:I might attempt this if I can find the time and ambition. Sno-xr's paint process works, but it might be easier to just purchase a can of fusion plastic paint. Very easy to paint...

My roomie/renter works at an Auto Body Supply. I can get the paint at cost at the body shop. Any idea what color code I should use? do you mix the adhesion promoter in the paint or spray it first by its self? do you have to clear it as well?
The promotor that i used was Bull Dog, you will have to read the instructions on what ever brand you use. As far as the clear coat, if you paint the inside of the windsheild, the windy acts like a clear coat(nice and shinny from the outside) The inside is less visible so I didn't worry about the look underneath!

I used Krylon Fusion from Cdn Tire, ...don't sand your winshield, just spray the stuff on. I did 8 coats with 15-20 mins between coats, ...this used a full can. Don't spray it too heavy per coat or you'll get runs in your paint, ...not good.
I have no autobody experience or painting experience. I design computer systems, so I have a laptop and a cubicle. So if I can do it, anyone can do it. Give it a try and take your time.
