viper silencer mod?

No baffle to drill. I recently cut one open. It has three seperate chambers that the exhaust apparently bounces around then exits. When I have time maybe later tonight I'll post my photos of the inside of a stock Viper silencer. I need to resize them and I don't have time now. Taking the kids to Sunday school.

send the pics to me and I will pst without a resize. or worst case, photobucket resizes automatically ;)

Here you go.

wonder what the fix powersports mod is that they do to the viper silencer?? anyone out there know?? thanks for th epics!

J-Man ...

Is the whole thing filled with insulation? Can you post a little larger pics?

Thanks!

I know the photos are not perfect. Let me try to explain the silencer exhaust travel.
1) exhaust enters the 1st chamber(first two photos)
2) then it travels through the hole you see to 3rd chamber (crossover tube)
3) exhaust is then routed from 3rd chamber into a tube below crossover tube into the center chamber and out the exit hole.
4) keep in mine both the crossover tube and exit tube are perforated to bleed into center chamber.

5) the center chamber with the two tubes is packed with insulation.

As far as the FIX mod. I think the mod might be in the pipe by possibly removing some baffles. He also requires and air box mod and head mod to see any results. He doesn't recommend doing just the exhaust. I've talked with him about it. Also I e-mailed a guy that had this setup done last year. (King Cobra kit) and he said he could not really see any performance difference. I asked a few more questions and he quit e-mailing me. That told me something right there.

On another note:

I also think the Viper has staggered compression for a reason.(other than straight jetting) If you have ever talked with a pipe builder or read about 2-stroke pipe theory one thing has been brought up about triple/single engines. The third exhaust wave messes up the recharge cycle in the pipe. By staggering the pto side lower, it probably makes that exhaust wave come in at a different frequency to get better performance out of the single pipe.

man no wonder they're so quiet ... why is it so hard to get more power out of the Viper without doing triple pipes?

they are in effect "super tuned" to run fantastic on a single, and yamaha did a great job of that.

Super tuned? 123 hp out of a 700 is super tuned? Plenty of hp 90% of the time but sometimes I'd like a little more. My buddy's stock 2000 SX700R with 8000 miles is dead even with mine, I find that a little disappointing. Still like the Viper better than the SXR, but it sucks his sled will run with mine all day.

I mean that they made that sled so there isnt really a lot to be gained. the pipe and silencer are pretty well tuned as far as they can be with the rest of the motor. there is nothing left there to be gained without getting tripple pipes. but then the cdi is really tuned for a single pipe. in comparison, the non valved tripples had some gains to be made from reed spacers, not needed in the viper. the sled has a good factory setup. if your friends sxr is keeping up with it, either his is setup great or yours isnt at all

I know his hasn't been touched at all in the last 5000 miles since he's had it - it's stock as far as we know.

Mine must not be set up at all. I've got a clutch alignment tool on the way and a torque limiter to put on it. I've also got a 53/43 helix and a green spring to try. Once I get all that on it I'm going to tune it in to run the right rpm, too. I should probably clean my powervalves, too.

After those, you should be able too beat him.I clutched mine and could walk away from a stock viper,Put on a ripsaw, that will help also.

I got the Ripsaw - He just got a ice ripper (ripsaw based with picks).

I hope so - it sucks to get beat by the older stuff like that.

that is true. On a dyno the vipers are around 8500 for peak power but they have great over rev capability, and stay strong further out than most engines. For drags clutch them around 8400 but for top speed i have found 8600 or so to work better.
