Thats what I was thinking too. I actually hope that Cat does come out with a 4-banger 4-stroke sled. All the Cat people have been saying that Yamaha sleds are fat piggys, what are they gonna say when Cat's big 4-stroke is 600+ pounds?

i heard they are reserecting teh thunder cat. theyll prolly drop the 1000 cc suk 4 banger in that. i heard its suspose to be in a modified firecat chaise to. strengthed to handle the weight and tork of the 4 banger.

There is definately gonna be a high performance 4 stroke from Cat. That's why the really had no major changes. There are cleaning out there parts surplus. They will have some of there motorcycle engines in there sled. They are working on a rider forward 4 stroke around 160 or so horses. Also there is talks from yamaha and a/c about a 600 or 700 and a 300 cc Freestyle type sled. 2007 should be full of surprises. Problem is there will be alot of leftover inventory to get rid off. The question from A/C is if they can keep them from breaking and needing repairs all the time.

i think cat could be the biggest threat to yamaha... i dont think poo or doo are gonna come out with anything major... but thats just my oppinion

I agree strongly here. Cat has that T660 turbo and it is slower and much heavier than any of out fourstrokes meant for trails, even the two up sled and people still say in magazines what a blast it is to drive this sled, BUT the closest thing you see to its weight is that it "pushes through corners" or "is not very flickable", but never once does it say that its a big tank. HOWEVER, you always seem to hear how heavy the yams are. But maybe this is because the T660 turbo is in a whole different class of sled, meaning that they dont even compare it against other 600 in a serious test or shootout, so it doesnt get the chace to be crapped on.

Example: RS Vector, dry listed weight: 536lbs, ACT600 turbo: 570lbs

AC has got the resources in Suzuki to produce such a sled, but might take a few years to get the weight down like yamaha has, not to mention giving the yam fourstokes something in a fourstroke class which is competetive.

i agree, i think cat is the only one that will make a competitive 4 stroke to match up to the apex. and i hate to say it but given their reputation for making fast sleds (ex. f cats, t-cat) their big 4 stroke will probably be faster than the apex. yes they have reliablitly issues but at the bar on the lake no one is gonna be talking about reliability. yamaha won't be alone in the high performance 4stroke market much longer.

i would be willing to bet what you are seeing there is the new f-series hood.... they will put them in a crossfire/m series like chassis next year to be the last brand to go true rider forward in the performance trail section....

the screens up top mimic the anti powder suckin air inlets on the 06 crossfires....

i think you will see an f8 or f9 in this chassis, but it will be a couple of years before they go to high performance 4 strokes... they are too far behind yami to jump in now....

come 2010 (i think is the next emissions reduction year) everyone will be wishing they went 4 stroke when yami did.....

my 2 cents....

suzuki has awesome 4 stroke motors.I know they will give yamaha a run foir there money.Look at the gsxr 600,750,1000 they are killers engines

I wonder if Honda is going to get into snowmobiles also. That would really make things interesting. Another thing if cat starts making 4 stroke performance sleds also that may bring prices down a little. Competition is always beneficial to the consumer.

I think we will see a new Firecat line that is rider forward with a new EFI system (knock and EGT sensor) to make it EPA compliant. We should also see a new ground up sled with a strong 4 stroke motor.. There is no way a firecat chassis could handle the weight of large 4stroke motor. It can't even stay together with the small two stroke motors it has now.

It will be interesting to see what happens. Suzuki has come upon some major hard times lately and they have fallen behind in terms of engine technology.
The Hayabusa engine is VERY heavy and all that bike is really good for is long, straight wide-open runs. Its certainly not a bike thats made for the twisties.
They could go with the engine from GSXR 1000 and have close to the same power with much lighter weight.
Dont think that Yamaha wont come out with a more powerfull sled in the near future. The current R1 is 190 hp (and thats normally aspirated).
I agree with the comment that Cat is really the only one who can match Yamaha in terms of 4-stroke engine technology. Polaris seems set on the Weber 4-stroke (not a threat, IMO) and Doo is most likely going to milk the SDI and Powertek engines for as long as they can.
Cat has been losing a lot of money in recent years and I dont think they have enough money to do the same amount of r&d that Yamaha has done (Yamaha is a much bigger company afterall), but we'll see what happens.
The real question is: If the snow conditions dont improve, how many people are going to lay down $10,000 (or more) for a new sled?

honda actually has a patent taken out for a sled. look in the new amsnow issue. betting it will be a good competitor fo ryamaha. they are elsewhere :)
