ya, I don't think there's any doubt that the GSXR1000 is THE literbike motor to have these days.

On a side note, have any of you guys seen the video of the GSXR 1000 frame that basically broke into 2 pieces after a guy wrecked it? I believe he low sided it going like 40 mph. Not sure if his was defective or what but that bike was messed up.

The current R1 is actually 183 horse (with the ram air), but yes yamaha definately has ability to rise up in the h.p. field if need be.

ya I've seen the numbers, but the race results and the beef under the zuk's power curve are sure hard to argue with. I think yamaha might be exagerating the ram-air effect a fair bit
(yamaha? exagerrate? never!)
atleast the performance of the 2 bikes sure seems to indicate that if there's a 7-8hp advantage, it's sure not on the Yamaha.
I'm wondering when they will drop the 5-valve, the M1 (GP bike) has been a 4 valve for a couple years now, and sure seems to be making some jam (towards the end of the season it looked to be overpowering the 5 cylinder Honda's) maybe we'll get some trickle down from that direction?

If honda jumps in they have there CBR 929RR motor and a couple other strong runners
and honda also has the supercharged waverunner......
i think they (honda) would be behind in the suspension/chassis department as they havent experimented with sleds .......

but when honda does do something, they do a great job. right there with yamaha in terms of quality and fit/finish. imagine a sled with vtec
that would be fun

Honda's watercrafts are not doing all that great! I thought they would take over once they introduced their 4 strokes, but they are still at the bottom in sales. Yamaha, Kaw, and SD, are all above Honda in the watercraft 4 strokes category.
Don't forget about Doo's 215HP 4 stroke.

929 is like 5 years obsolete man, 130hp doesn't cut it anymore.
as far as honda jumping into the sled industry, we've ALL been hearing this crap for years, if it's gonna happen, it'll happen when it happens. Until then I'm sure not counting eggs that aren't even laid, much less hatched yet.
IF Honda jump in, I sure wont be buying anything of theres. I've never been a fan of theres, given how they do business.

junior, how do they do business? I follow bikes a little, but not enough to know what you mean.
What is the official release date for the new 07's. If I remember right Yamaha is the first one to release right? It's always an interesting day to follow. Last year I kept switching from Yamahas website to TY over and over.

i've been hearing a tube chassis too for cat, but that would take incredibly long to make in the manufacturing process, so i highly doubt it unless they are that desperate on the weight issue (if its a four stroke) to catch up with blue. also was given a link where honda took out an official patent for a snowmobile, but they will go down faster than redline i think. unless, they team up with redline or someone else who's been in the business, because they just don't have the years of r&d under their belt like everyone else. thats A LOT of catching up to do... too much for a company to waste time on...

The only problem with that is that you need low end tourque Eric... ha-ha...

yeah, tq is missing from that. my car redlines at 8000rpm, and because of the small light pistons, it makes no real tq doing it. sure is fun though lol!

Why would Honda want to enter a shrinking market? They are an accountant based company now, and they are no longer interested in being an innovator. If you need proof just look at their ATV line-up. All they do now is to play catch-up with the other manufacturers. Honda needs to change their "Follow The Leader" slogan to Follow The Profits"!

Honda's superpower is tons and tons of money, and oppressing there engineers. don't think the R&D gap would close it, because honda would some in and overnight hire on 4x the engineering staff of all the other big 3 combined, bleed those engineers dry over a 1 year period, then can 3/4 or 7/8ths of them. but in that time they'd have a 2 year tech gap IN THERE FAVOUR.
the other thing about them that kills me is that there engineering prowess isn't exactly great, they tend to focus so much on 1 thing that they lose sight of everything else. Great example in there race bikes is HP, they concentrate so much on HP that the bike handles like a tank, has no balance, is useless in the wet, but the riders and engineers are scared to tell them this because to correct it would mean losing face and admitting that they'd screwed up. and honda never screw up or take steps backwards.
I could rant all day on this topic, I'll just leave it as, I hate them and they do dirty dirty business without regard for there competitors or themselves.
