My srx is VERY slow, as slow as my old 600 I will say. 0-60 is so so but 60-70 is terrible. It has tempaflow, 8bus, 22/40 gearing, green secondary spring quite loose and a 1,5 track. Why the f'**** is it this slow?? Where do I begin to look?
The best I could do yesterday was to acc EVENLY with a nytro... If I was 1 sec too slow on the throttle he was all gone. A srx is supposed to be much better than this????
 
Sometimes you just wanna leave them alone with just minor clutch work and enjoy them. I'm sure some guys will help out and good luck.
 
Start from scatch and put it back to stock. See what it does from there. I was out on a river Sunday and my 2000 is still stock and it would hold with a ZR900 ( ran out of room it may of pulled away) and F7 I could, if conditions permitted pull on them.
Food for thought.
 
whats the power valves look like. If any of the 3 are gummed and slow or not moving, that could be your answer. Maxdlx
 
what helix are you running? your track is not to tight? wrap the green spring to 70 or 80 degrees,

Why not just leave the damn thing stock to begin with????

I laugh so much when I see people bitching and complaining about lousy performace and stuff....always after major mods.....

My STOCK 1999 SRX700 is plenty fast enough....all 100% original with over 12,000KM on it.....motor has never even been touched......

Hmm, co-incidence???

Still running the original track for christ-sakes......
 
Hmm gees Norwegian I would be happy if I acclerated evenly with a Nytro, isn`t that good enough?:).

A month ago I dragged my 1999 SRX700 136" 2" elsewise stock against an RS Vector MTN 2005, one time he beat me and one time I beat him, on time we were even.
The lake was covered with 10cm of snow on top of the slippery shiny ice so the traction was very bad.
I don`t know how my SRX runs compared to antoher SRX but I think it runs good. Going to pull the carbs and check clean the powetvalves soon, just to have it done.

A solution to your problem could be to buy an old ET340 or a BR250, ride them now and then and when you go back to the SRX you will be soo happy;).
 
Kimoaj, it is supposed to fully and completely destroy a nytro in acc. Chili, I wish I could run it stock, but I bought it used, and it came with heelclickers for 1/8 mile racing, useless on trails.
 
I agree with chilli . I have an 02 Viper er with 26,800 km on it and I have left it stock as well as also still running the original track. There is alot to be said for factory engineers , they got their job some how . Stock always gets me home ,especially when it's a yammi ......... ;)!
 
51-43 is a good helix, check out the wrap on secondery, maybe its way off...
otherwise if everything is ok you should have no problem with the nytro, and for the vector kim raced... its not supposed to be a race at all!! vectors are not fast!!
 
I have a Hauck 51/43 on my shelf. I did not like how it worked on my sled and/or did not feel any differance.:(. Stock one is back on.
 
What a stupid thread. If you people would just take in a fraction of the information presented on this site you would realize that clutch work and a new track is not a major mod, and that changing your sled from stock does not have to sacrifice reliability. You cannot just throw performance parts on your sled without putting a little bit of thought into it. (i.e. somebody throwing a random helix on and expecting a new sled without thinking about how that helix is going to effect the rest of the clutching)

BTW. Nytro's are very quick sleds, as are vectors if set up properly.
 
Actually, I take in alot of the information...and I think this site is great. There is a ton of useful info here....

The problem I have is all the wanna-be engineers and mechanics that modify their sleds, then ask everyone for helps when it craps out on them...aka the title of this thread..."whats wrong"?....whats wrong id you messed with the sled, and now its not working properly....a better title would be "What did I screw up?"

My whole point was almost all of the people that have significant problems posted on here, have done at least 1 major mod....whether it be clutching, jetting etc etc etc.

I trust the engineers that designed my sled.....the same as the engineers that designed my car..... maybe thats why I have a 100% stock 1994 Toyota 4runner with over 350,000KMS....and yes, original engine, tranny and transfer case.....and only 1 clutch replacement at almost 200,000KMS.

Afterall, if these mods were done to enhance performance, then why is it limping home?
 
Its not a stupid thread. My main point was to put the sled back to stock and see how it performs and go from there. I have a 51/43 sitting around and thought I would try it. It didn't help and I did not expect it to do wonders with out fiddling around with other components. I took it off and left things stock and my sled does very well with other 700's and well with 800's. I will do work to it once I feel its not up to snuff and is loosing the edge it had. :)
 
I didn't perform the modifications myself. A well respected performance shop here did. It was modified already in the clutch, they just made it more stock like. With this set up it is supposed to fly, and there are many happy srx owners here with the exact same clutch kit, and my gearing is the same as well. Why isn't mine flying, despite of full comp on all cylinders and a well tried clutch kit? That's the question really, and I want some hints to what to look for, making it perform like it is supposed to perform? If I wanted to ride a totally stock sled, without trying to acc. with other sleds I'd buy a mountainmax. Hope you understand me better now.
 
Hmmm, Belt OK ? 91 Octane gas ? Bad gas? track to tight? Compression OK ? Is the exhaust flowing well ? Sorry man don't know. Hope it works out for you.
