Got to take the new sled to st germain this week. She ran 105 on the dream meter on a pretty rough lake with some snow. What kind of top speed should i see. Its a stock 02 with elec start and reverse. On the other hand i beat a guys 700sx with pipe and studs, and was right with my friends 98 srx.
Is there anything I should try to make it quicker, or is this about right. Oh yeah, it pulled about 85-8600 rpm on top. Other than that, I love the sled.

pretty sure off the line is normal. These are known for bad weight transfer. But your speed is way better. I guess I'll start looking things over. The sled only has 700 miles so it should be in good shape. Anything done to yours? Maybe I just need a little
for the f7's. Since I new I would loose to them racing I just did some water skipping with her. Woo hoo it skipped like a mofo.

Sorry to burst your bubble but I have NEVER seen a stock Viper do 116. Maybe down the side of a mountain. Strait down the steepest side. My slightly modded RX1 will top out at 118 to 120 pretty quickly and there has never been a Viper any where close. I ride with 5 of them. Different years and one thats clutched.

I posted 116 mph on my stock viper with 96 studs this past weekend on a very hard packed icy lake on a long run. My rpm's were 8700 to 8900.
Some other lakes with more snow coverage i got her up to 109 to 111mph.

Conditions and lenth of the run's will make a huge difference on top speeds. Also for top end performance the viper likes to spin around 8700 to 8800.

mine is studded that is all
114 on hardpack lake, w/1 1/4 ripsaw! Bone stock at that time.

I was out this last weekend in northern Wisconsin. I saw a lot of F7's. It made me wanna puke. I don't think it takes
to beat an overated piece of crapp. Just keep tunning and take it back to the lake

I used to see over 120 on the dream meter before I put the 1.25" track on. Now my best is around 115. BTW, it runs very close to several friends RX-1's that are clutched and dialed. They pull me by about two lengths off the line then it stays that way all the way up to full top end on long lake runs. Sometimes I creep up by another length at that point, but never go by.

Congrats on your VIPER purchase,,,,I've been very happy with mine! Did you get a chance to hit the Thunderbird in St. Germain? It's the last stop of the night when riding in that area, always a great time!
Purchased my viper new during 02-03 season and was thrilled when the digital speedometer read 112-116 mph depending on snow coverage on the lakes. Later there were rumors that the digital reading on the vipers was off (mph higher than actual speed), so my group tested it against a radar gun numerous times proving it was off 6mph (i.e sled displayed 116, actual speed on r.g. was 110). Disappointing, but that's what we found on the 02 vipers. Lately my sled only hits 102mph, changed the belt and didn't notice any difference. No biggie, love taking corners on wooded trails over shooting across the lakes.
I don't think that your going to hit 116 unless sled has been modified. Just a chick's opinion in this male dominated sport!

I've got a top speed of 101 on my GPS. I ground off one of the splines on my spedo pickup and my once "dream-o-meter" is now dead on. BTW I've got an 1 1/4 sno-x track under my skid which gives lots of low end traction, so I'm pretty happy with 101mph

I saw about 115 on the speedo when all was stock. have a ripsaw now, and no lakes are good enough for me yet this year. thin ice!

on hard pack on the road past my house I have see upwards of 125 on my piped Viper consistently. A couple of times it has broke the 130 mark. The tach is reading about 9300 rpm's on a mile long pull. As far as actual speed...who knows? a buddy of mine has gps so we are going to get together some time and find out for sure.
