I had my 02 Viper on GPS tonight and it ran 99.9. The speedo said 115. The trail had some snow on it and the track seemed to be spinning alot...I have 192 worn out chiesel tooths. No reverse or electric start.

The reverse will cost you a little, but the electric start should only cost you a little weight, a portion of which is rotating mass. However, the track tension and the chain tension can rob quite a bit. I run my track with over 2 inches sag at 18 lbs., and the chain finger tight, and then back off 1/16 - 1/8 turn. (Just off drag) The reverse geared sleds are a little different in chain tension and I don't have a lot of experience with them.

- Clean fuel circuits in the carbs and correct jetting for your conditions.
- Clean and properly adjusted power valves.
- Most important of all, well tuned clutches and matching belt.

Conditions are everything. This year on the lake in the UP ,the best I saw was 107-109 on the speedo. The lake had alot of snowpack and we had a good crosswind. On the GPS it said 102mph. I was dead even with 4 RX-1's and one '06 REV 800HO. The other Viper along with us I could pull away from. I've seen higher speeds on this lake in previous years. It just depends on the conditions like the snow, the wind and the temperature.

WOW! I am feeling a little better about mine. I thought it was just plain slow.115mph 8600 rpm. Good freind of mine on a early 02 viper crawls out ahead of me. I personaly have had his 02 127mph rev's to 9200. Original thought the rotating mass difference between the 1.25 lug and 1 inch was making the difference, but I think the early 02's are just plain faster. I know, I know, the speedo's are off but his does pull mine at topend (when he finally catches up from lack of traction LOL) Thats a close enough test for me.

I bought a stock 02 red Viper ER at the end of the 05 season. After riding a 99 SRX for four years. I found the stock Viper a little tame. Top speed that I found on the SRX was 108 on the GPS but it got there very fast. It had a can and clutching only.
This year I piped the Viper ( Speedwerx) and put on a roller secondary with a straight angle helix and some heel clicker primary weights ( had the Heel Clicker left over from the SRX didn’t like them on that). Top speed with this setup was 118 on GPS speedo read 124. Still playing around with the setup. Don’t think its dialed in yet. Open to any suggestions.

the track on your viper s will take off the top end a bit. but the tracktion offsets that loss to me
I have seen 186kms on the dream meter.. I have 54/43 helix and green spring wrapped at 70degrees with engine tourque limiter. It clutched at 8,500-8,600rpms. 144 studs... It works real well. I took an RX-1 in a race.. He was pissed... It works well to say the least..

what do you gain from wrapping it at a certain degree? I have the same setup, just installed. wrapped it at 60*. what would be the difference??

I usally see 114-115, but hit 120 on a mile run last weekend. Stock motor, heel clicker clutching.

Headed up again tomorrow to see if I can get any improvements. Put a few studs down the middle, loosened the track a bit, and adjusted chain which was to tight, and finally gave it some transfer. I will see if these small things and conditions help. Thanks to everone who posted suggestions.
Have the fun of more speed is finding it.
