I just got my subscription notice for snowtech a few days ago. it says that the last issue was my last and if I wanted the spring issue I had to redo my subscription. now it went on to entice me to get it (didnt need to, I was going to get it either way) and said something interesting. some is questionable, but take it for what it is.
Here is what you'll be missing:
-after 4 years of REV models, is there another shocker coming from ski-doo?
-What secrets were carefully gaurded by Polaris and Arctic Cat until SnowTech's March issue?
-Which manufacturer will unviel a new age "Phazer" to satisfy the need for a lighter, less expensive, mid-powered, fun-to-ride trail sled?
-Will there be new 4-strokes and 2-strokes - and coming from where?
-What sled will challenge the Mach Z for being the "Big Bad Wolfe"?
-Will polaris be expanding on the popularity of their 600H.O. engine?
-And much, much more!
now a lot I don't care about. the mach z will be challenged by a new thundercat imho. and the phazer thing is obviously a hint at what is coming from yamaha. now that I would be interested to see! that seems to be the biggest hole in the lineup for yamaha. its the reason dad is tryign to sell his vector. he loves everything abut it, but he is a real small guy adn just cant get the vector to feel right for him sittin gon it. let the predistions roll boys!

That would be cool the Phazer is the best all around sled that was ever made, Yamaha made a mistake when they let go of that one, it just needed to be looked over for improvements.....

That would be a wise move for yamaha... they need something lightweight out there thats less expensive and less power.

I just hope they do it right this time as opposed to the job they did with the pro-action chasis model. IMO that model didn't do justice to the Phazer name.

I thought the pro action model was a nice little cruizer. not as light as the old, but had a lot more suspension and chassis under it

That would be awsome!!!...but liquid cooled this time!!

I think a liquid 4 stroke in the 60-80 hp range would be great. geared for a low top speed but great corner to corner speed. then it would be great to make an sx version with a better front end and made for maxximum cornering and trail speed. not huge bumps. that would be sweet I think

if they do it, it will be liquid cooled and 4 stroke....
might hurt the "lightweight, throwaround" image the phazer has always had....
our kids 2000 is a blast to ride, you can move it around all u want, a true "fun to ride", but if they used a 80 ish hp four stroker, probably 2 cylinder, it might just work....

I was figureing a smaller lighter chassis to accomadate a nice compact twin. should be able to drop some serious weight that way

Liqiud in 2 stroke would be better lighter 440cc or 500cc

My wife loves hers ('01 PZ500) except when we pull up to the gas pump.
I'm hoping the new one will be a lightweight 4 stroke that she will be interested in.

When in Feb do they unveil the '07 lineup?

the 13th I think. yamaha will never make another 2 stroke. just dont see that happening. only reason they still have the mtn viper is they must have had leftover motors lol! why doesnt your wife like pulling up to the pumps? you have a 4 stroke, or is hers bad on gas?

Her 500 is a pig 10mpg at best - uses more gas than my 700 - LOL
Air cooling is less effective than liquid cooling, so they need to run richer (at least that's my theory)

A new Phazer!?, sounds awsome to me. Im sure due to the reputation of the phazer being reliable and light, thats what they will try to make the new one like. Otherwise, wouldnt they just name it something else?
The new phazers like mine arent very good on gas, would really like to know if I could lean her out a bit, running synthetic oil already.

Very close motors. Apperently, they were updated with new style pistons, (SX), crankcase updates, slightly different porting and ignition changes. This is accoriding to a magazine I read back in 99 when the new phazer came out. Theyre good on gas if you ride them like a granny though, and I mean slow, only twice the speed of a groomer or like 30km/h or slightly more.

The Phazer does need to be rich – leaning it to what you would think is proper fuel ratio only makes it slower. It’s not the fact that it’s air cooled (even though you are correct with the theory you stated) but more the design of the carbs and pipes – on that sled. It’s a very mild engine.
With mine (2000) I have the clutch set so once you get rolling…it slightly upshifts pulling the rpm down a few thou, but still cruises at a good trail speed. It’s a mid range thing. It revs too high at trail speeds stock – if your gas conscious.
Getting onto a lake – it will still wind up to max rpm and pull real good – even in heavy snow. The fact that it plants the skis in stock form is no help either
our 00 phazer is a pig....
fuel usage on a trip on sunday
05 vector er with me on it, riding hard 2.2 gallons
00 phaazer with 13 yr old riding not so hard 5.5 gallons
they suck the gas, if i remember right the 500 twin liquid engine is a pig too.....
