Okay here is whay I have done.. help PLEASE!
This sled just seems to be powerless. Also in this thread:
V-Max LINK
Sorry for re-post, but figured may get different views here.
1 - replaced BOTH clutches
2 - Cleaned the carbs.
Took them off sled opened bowls up, sprayed carb cleaner down the jets blew it out w/ air, a few times, and re-installed
3- Cleaned reed valves, replaced gaskets on each. Both valves looked okay.
4 - cleaned out airbox
5 - Removed exhaust, blew it out w/ compressed air, seemed clear.
Stats..
Each cylinder has good spark, 120 PSI compression each jug
Without the clutch or anything on the PTO sidethe sled seemed to rev up okay, toped out at about 8k (normal??)
Once I had everything back together, with a NEW belt i strarted sled and gave her some gas. I wont know about the over 30 mph situation, and I stiull feel that was a clutch issue (at least part of the prob) but it seems the sled does not have the power it Should.
It feels like it take a while for the RPM's to climb, and even a few times the sled actually died when I pulled the throttle back fast from Idle.
Now, it is about 40 or so outside if that has any play on the motor acting how it is. And also only thing I did NOT do was change plugs, but I'm not convinced that this would make that much of a difference.
Could a fuel pump be weak? How do I test that?
Thoughts? I guess I wont know what it really does until I get it on some snow, but it just does not seem to have a lot of power when it up on the stand.
Suggestions? THings I missed?

The temp could be a factor,,it always seen when it gets realy warm out
a sled is a little doggy.
Like i said in your other post 120 IS low for that year 600,,weather
thats the prob. i don't know for shure, but i do know on our '94 vmax
(all stock) comp. is 150psi on both cly. and my '95 is 150 psi too .
somthing in the cluching could be wrong yet hard to tell when your sitting
behind a computer.
You said you replaced the clutches,,with what??
you may have to do a better job than that,,a totall tear down.

How do I check for a vac leak at the seal?
Replaced the clutch w/ used v-max clutch. But regardless even w/o the clutch it seems to take a while for RPMS to rise.
Idle seems to be fine. Maybe vibrates more than I'd expect but idles okay.

Will the sled get up to speed with the track off the ground?

Well I didnt crank it all the way up to full throttle, yes it seems to raise speed but I guess it just seems that it takes a while for the engine rpms to raise and get that track moving. I'd think w/ no weight / load on it that it would get moving pretty quick.
and like I said even w/o ANY clutch on the PTO it seemd to bog a little.

Any ideas how to check that? Sorry, some of this stuff is new to me. How do I check the fuel pump? put it this way when i had the fuel lines off the carbs and pulled the starter cord, fuel came out of both lines...

Well thats the thing i was telling you about when i said you may need to
do a better job on cleaning the carbs,a total tear down on the bench.
Your fuel pump seems ok.

Plugs
Jeepers, I think you said that you did'nt replace the plugs! There is a really good chance that you just have a fouled plug! If your new to these machines, thats the first thing to always try even if they look brand new. Did I spell FOULED wrong!!!!!!

I had the set screw that sync's the carb come out of my 95 600 and my buddies 96 600 did the same thing. The common shaft between the carbs will only open up one carb slide when this happens. All that has to be done to inspect for this is remove the gold metal caps on top of the carbs.
