I've been reading this forum for some hours now, and it seems like some of you know alot about clutching!
And it seems like "Turk" have tried the most when it come to this!
My sx500r - 2001 have no trottle response, i have thought of new reeds and a clutch-setup. The problem is just that i dont know what weight, helix, spring, ++ i should choose.
I found something:
Weights: Yamaha 8ab
Helix: 47/41
And 2.4 grams in each hole of the weights.
Else i've done the head gasket mod and if i dont remember wrong, the gearing is around 21-39.
If i buy new reeds and those clutch parts (if it will work with them?)
will i get a quick and fast snowmobile then?
Thanks!

got the same sled as you do. that clutching woke it up pretty good.
you have to change the rollers in the primary as well. the 01 sxr500 had 15.5 mm rollers. that setup calls for 15mm rollers.
here is the setup i have on my sxr.
primary
-stock spring
-3 engagement shims.
-15mm rollers
-40gram base weight thundershift weights with 2.4 g in upper and lower hole middle empty
secondary
-dalton 47/41 helix
-stock spring wrapped to 70 degrees
make shure you do your centre to centre and offset and inspect and clean clutches when installing these parts.
as for the reeds its a waste of time unless you are doing some wild porting to the motor. instead look up reed notch in the tec pages and do that. crisped up my throttle response a bit and made my sled a little easyer to start.

maim's sledd works well with that setup. at 70degrees secondary pulls hard bottom and mid but he lost a little top(maybe too many donuts???) also 6000rpm at 50km/h
at 60dregee better top but not as snappy but 5500rpm for 50km/h(way better gas mileage than stock on those long cruises)
I did the install for him at school(actually the shop class that i was teaching at the time did it and learned a little about clutching). So pretty easy on the whole easiness factor.
for normal riding and stock exhaust stock reeds work the best IMO reliable and tough.

I got these for 108$, is it worth it?
My stock reeds got a gap on about 1 - 1 1/2mm.

I must pay about 287$ for the weigths, rivets and the helix.

since they have that money back garentee giveem a shot with the stock clutching before you put vmaxjhons set-up in there.
sounds pretty close to what i paid for mine back in november for the clutch parts from maximum performance. you should be able to get any 40gram base weight to work pretty well in that set-up. i almost bought the 40gram base weight heelclickers to use in mine.

Maim, how did your acceleration change?
Did it get pretty much quicker?
Why do you have to change the rollers?

acceleration is much snappyer when you punch it out of the hole and on a cruise on the trail. i was very happy with the results. still wont take my brothers buddys wife mxz583 goin across the lake but i do jump her a good sled legnth out of the hole and she is not a small woman. i did this because i was having trouble burning belts once i put a ripsaw on my sled.
as for the roller change, that is what vmaxjhon uses in his setup. it has something to do with applying more force to the belt if i remeber correctly. this is posted in here somewhere with all the tecnical details.
just ask kirkswim. he rode my sled this weekend and spent some time chasin me in the trails. ill admit im a little bit psyco in the trails but im always on my side every corner and straight strech. must be why they let me set the pace usually.

Ok, thank you very much!

You do use this set-up, right? but, with 15mm rollers?
Have you tried against a stock sx700r?

I'll sell you my 8AB's if you need 3 of them. You will have to change the rivit's to what ever your setup calls for. Yamaha price is like $45 each. Mine have about 1000 miles on them but look like they were just installed. PM me if your interested.
Maim's sxr500 stay with my clutched viper for about 140 feet at the start and then its bye bye(viper kicks him). But he is right the throttle response is way better on the trail now that i have gotten a chance to ride it.
But for my money my next sled(small one) will be a phazer mountain can you say FUN!!!!!!!!!!!

How can I do the headgasket mod do I have to get a new gasket or can I use my old one?

I believe I read the mod as not recommended for the 500. You will need 91 octane if you do it for sure.
The 3 8AB's are sitting on my desk if your interested.

I use the 19/39 68l chain gearing with the headgasket mod.
