Adjusted powervalves and found something

Well finally I took the plunge and adjusted my powervalves. I removed the pipes and manifolds and felt inside the ports. After I rem oved the maniforlds I peaked in to look at my pistons. The outside pistons seem to have a little scuff on them, seems pretty minor to me but i don t have a compression tester. Is it normal to have light scuffs in them? The chaincase side and center piston and cylinder were replaced last year. The center piston is perfect. Should I be concerned at all?
 
Make sure you can,t feel them with your fingernail otherwise no problems.
 
I could not feel them. I had an arctic cat that ran out of oil so i know what a bad one looks like I just wondered what is normal. My friend had a 97 xlt that seem way worse but dealer said that he should run it and that it is normal. I put it back together so cant take pics daman. How much can I expect to pay for a good compression tester and where do I get one? I have to tell you guys, Im not sure why peoples powervalves get so gummed up mine almost fell out they were so clean. ITs been I think 1200 miles since I last checked them.

Mine is a sunpro($25-30) from NAPA works very good seems accurate.

What kind of oil are you using????
 
Have an account through my buddy with napa.Will have one sent over tomm. Thanks guys. What should I look for on numbers compression wise? 120?

Yes....to a certain point,,you wouldn't want to see say 99 or 100 psi all the
way through that would be not good.:)
 
I finally got a compression tester from Vip and am a little unsure. pto 150psi middle 120psi and 150psi again. Sled runs great just want to make sure im not loosing any power.
 
umm..is the center piston the one with the scuff. because that is not good. & the other 2 seem a bit high.that could be the gauge though but they shouldnt ever be that much difference.
 
Thats the wierd thing, the center was the one that looked perfect. The 150s were the outside ones. I also didn't warm the sled up like I should have. Ill get another reading warm and see if that evens them up a bit.Hopefully
